Off to Dealership for another Warranty claim
« on: March 08, 2015, 04:31:35 AM »

So washing the bike yesterday, and the black paint on the rear sprocket was coming off in 6 inch pieces. Also the gear change linkage is badly pitted, with the chrome coming off.

Spoke to the dealer they want to inspect today, but they did say, Harley use 2 pac black paint on ally, so it quite often comes off - great. Hopefully they won't try and wriggle out of a claim.

Guess what? Just got my pitted gear change linkage changed under warranty. Just arrived in St Tropez at the Euro Festival and noticed a big piece of black paint fell off the rear sprocket.

Sorry to hear that. Not a long job, but I am thinking, what will happen when the paint falls off again and the bike is out of warranty, probably rub it down and go for chrome, or get it painted by someone who knows what they are doing :)

That is a wise choice.  :2vrolijk_21:

Im new to the site, but i would like to make a suggestion. Why not buy the chrome sprocket cover, and be done with it? I Took my bags off last night to clean the bike. Noticed that i had a silver rear sprocket. Couldnt even see the sprocket with the bags on.

Not a bad suggestion. But for my part, why should I buy something to cover up a part that really should just be painted correctly. The bike is under warranty so Harley should sort. You can't see the sprocket with the bags on, but that is no excuse for bad paint work. Once its out of warranty, it probably wouldn't bother me

EXACTLY!   Way too many Harley customers let the MoCo off the hook, paying to fix poor quality out of their own pocket and often by buying parts from Harley, thus letting Harley profit from their poor quality.  When the warranty expires, if it fails again just paint it yourself.

Hear hear. I don't really like the chrome shifter link and will probably buy a black one eventually but as its a warranty issue I want it changed. I have never spent this much money on a bike before so it has to be as it should be.
