'09 SERG Exhaust / Tuner upgrade
« on: December 17, 2013, 08:49:56 PM »

After dealing with Brian at FuelMoto for a while and contemplating my decision, much time was needed to make up my mind.

I wound up with a Ceramic coated XXX Headpipe, X-over, Jackpot 4" Slash-back mufflers, and a PowerVision tuner. About 4 hrs later, All done...

Love the sound, as always love the stock look, great fit and finish.

Thanks and Cudos to Brian and the team at FuelMoto....

Looks great, Paul.  Do they seem cooler?

Didn't ride too much when I was done, but after the Tuner was installed, sounded a lot better and idled better. We'll see about the cruising tomorrow

The pipe is kinda Purdy, ey Brian...

'Got the '09 with V&H PowerDual pipe on it, if I was going to buy one, it would be the FM.

Just curious...I though the XXX pipe was for larger motors.  Did you and Brian discuss the difference between their two pipes, and what made you decide on the larger one?

The pipe looks good, but that hard 90 degree elbow is a little odd...I have to wonder if it causes a bit of turbulence.  You never see hard 90's in commercial HVAC ducts, unless there are internal turning vanes, as it creates some issues with flow and static pressure.   :nixweiss:

:2vrolijk_21:    You beat me to the punch Terry.  I would have preferred a smooth radius bend versus a sharp 90°.  I guess the only way to tell if it's "as good as" would be to flow test the system and compare right to left.  It's hard to imagine this would flow the same on both sides, but sometimes looks can deceive. :nixweiss:

What's odder still is that I have their "standard" header with the full-size cross-under, and it doesn't look like that.

Been there done that. The miter cut pipe greatly reduces the flow from a mandrel bend. Without knowing the exact size of the pipe it's hard to say the exact amount but on a flow bench, testing 1 3/4" tubing it drops the flow app. 13% from a miter cut 90 to a mandrel bend 90%.

Damn, I'm starting to get a complex... Guess I gotta contact FuelMoto to see WTF is happening. Thanks for the positive words though. ;) ;)

On the lighter side, I'm planning more build on the 110, so I'll have the exhaust covered when I do.

So, After thinking for a bit, I question your knowledge... Not to mention the 2/1/2, A 2/1 D&D with the same size collector is less flow than a mandrel bent pipe?

Questions, Questions...Does a 2/1 have 13% less flow than a Fullsac HeadPipe? I'm not an engineer or an engine builder, but I don't think so...

That is not what is being said.  There is 13% less flow through a pipe with a sharp 90 degree elbow compared with a radiused (I'm not sure that is a word) 90 degree turn.  Nobody is talking about the collector design on the pipe.

The only reason for doing that miter cut is because the manufacture did not want to spend the money to do it right. You can get mandrel bends in different radius's from various suppliers and if you cannot find what you need you can get them made. The tooling for the bends run about $2500.00 and I know this as we own many of our own tooling dies just for doing this. So this is a case where a supplier just cheeped out, nothing more or less.
