Okay, I've got two chrome bike mufflers that I want to ceramic coat.

If I need to strip them of chrome, what is the best way to do that?

Or maybe I don't need to strip them and just have them coated, anyone know about this?

I would think it would take an acid dip to get the chrome off but most chrome shops won't do pipes or mufflers because of the carbon makes their tanks dirty.
Ask your ceramic coater guy that question....he might have a process to do just that.

These are still brand new and have no insulation, only baffles.  These are the cheap reverse megaphone with the removable end caps.

I want to get them ceramic coated the same as my pipes I made for my Boardtrack bike.

When I had my head pipes ceramic coated Jet Hot stripped the coating at that time.  The pipes were new and there was an additional charge for the stripping.

According to Frank at Jet-Hot, they don't strip chrome anymore.  You have to send the pipes to them already stripped.

Because my pipes are hand made, they are not chromed, but my reverse cone shorty mufflers are.  I got a quote from Jet-Hot for $385 to do four pieces.  I found a local St. Louis chrome shop that I can get my pipes chromed for about $100 less than coating them.  Seeing how I'm more interested in getting it finished, ride it a bit to prove it out and then sell it, chrome may be okay.  Also I have some other parts to be chromed and this might just be an opportunity to do it all at one time and one vendor.
