Who has changed the seat...and to what did you change to?
« on: August 26, 2015, 06:50:50 PM »

I took my first decent ride on Sunday....about 100 miles.  I have to say, the seat really isn't comfortable?  The ridge in the back of the driver portion hits me right in the top of the butt crack.  I like the look of the LePera Silohuette....I had a C&C on my standard FLHX, and it was okay.  I don't want a over sized monstrosity, but I'd like a little more comfort.

I have had Corbin solo's on several bikes and as far as long distance comfort it's very good. I can do 800 miles and get off not feeling like I need to be in traction. Some people love em, some hate em.  As far as their customer service....it is one of the worst! If the seat gets to you with a problem expect to send it back and wait another month. But if you are lucky enough to get it made right the first time then you are good to go.

X2 on the Corbin classic solo with heat.  The heated version of their seats are more comfortable IMHO due to the stitch pattern required for incorporating the heating elements.  Corbin customer service does suck, but if you buy through hd-dude (site member), he will make sure it is right before you get it. :2vrolijk_21:

For when the TP is on and I'm going on a trip......a cushy Mustang with driver back rest.
The rest of the time it's got the stock solo....I find it very comfy!
I've tried a Corbin...felt like I was riding on the fender....but, that may have been because of my bony ass.

I purchased the HD Reach seat and sent it to Alligator Bob in Illinois.  He trimmed off 6 lbs of foam, added a pro pad and covered it in buffalo hide.  It is now one of the most comfortable seats I've ever sit on.   :P

Hey Nicky
Here's mine with a le pera outcast seat, extremely comfy with backrest, looks even more badass without it, and the good thing for me is it sits me in a very similar position to the stock Cvo seat i.e low and back...this seats a keeper for me.

Butts are like opinions... What suits others' may or may not suit YOURS!

I went through around 6 seats before I found a couple that are comfortable to my skinny little backside. I have a Corbin DualTour for solo riding, and I can literally ride all day in it, with no problems. I got really lucky and found it here on the forum for a fraction of the new price. Even has orange flame stitching with a matching TP backrest, and two rider back rests that attach to the seat itself, with nothing on the bike. This old body needs a backrest! But the DualTour is AWFUL for the BSR... it is narrow, hard, and slants forward. My BSRs all HATE it. I'd say it's 9 out of 10 for me, but only 1/10 for the BSR.

The other seat is a Mustang Super Touring Wide Vintage, which is 8/10 for me, and 10/10 for the BSR. It came with an integrated backrest, too... so swapping seats is fast and simple. It's comfy, but not nearly as good-looking as the Corbin.

I've thought about getting a Corbin solo seat, but for whatever reason I just have never bothered.

Good luck!

I purchased the Danny Gray AirHawk Big Seat Solo. Looks great on the bike, but I'm just not sure if it's what I want for several days of long riding back to back. It's great that you can adjust the air pressure in the seat. So far the longest rides I have done is put back to back days of around 250 miles. The first day was getting a little uncomfortable towards the end, the second day got uncomfortable under 200 miles. I'm still playing with air adjustment on most rides, trying to see what works best. I still haven't decided if it's best to start low and pump up or start high and let out. One concern I had when buying this seat, it's a narrow seat at only about 13.5 inches. I think I probably like a wider seat. I was torn between this and a Mustang Vintage Super Solo Seat 17". I may have to try the Mustang and see if it suits me better.

Yep... it is a bit of a game of Russian roulette with a Corbin ,as to wether it will fit or not!, (soz couldn't resist it) , mind you there excellent customer service will soon sort it out if it doesn't fit!! :huepfenlol2: :2vrolijk_21:

I have had a couple of Corbins including one that I had custom rebuilt with high end foam and gel. I have always had issues with "monkey butt" and this is the only seat that has ever worked for me. Key is not to put in too much air just like the Air Hawk seat pad. Most people including me when I first got the seat put too much air in. Need to put just a little

I spent thousands on seats on all my other non-harley bikes.

The Harley stock UltraClassic seat is the most comfortable I've owned.

My 2012 cvo sg has a nice looking three piece seat, sits ok.  I bought a Stock non-cvo SG seat for short rides, looks good.

But I bolt on the stock UltraClassic seat when I get serious, like back to back 750 mile days.

I have stock handlebars, and am big at 6'2"/260.

Had Corbin on my previous bike. Worked excellent for me. Upgraded my SG  CVO and now have 2015 bike. After the first 500 ml run it's clear I need a new seat. So again went with Corbin.

 ::)
I'm hoping to experience the same results.  No longer have the need (nor desire) to travel 350-400 miles or more a day,  but still  want a comfortable seat for my butt.  Just recently got a Danny Gray Air Hawk and have yet to try it out on an extended (150-250) mile trip............but hope it works as I have heard.

In the past,  I've had a Corbin (hard and comfortable on short trips,  but will eat your azz alive after 400 miles on the way to the Milwaukee 100 year anniversary deal yrs ago. On the return trip,  I had purchased a gel pad (in Milwaukee) that did indeed save my azz for the return trip.   Since,  I've had a Mustang seat which had (great customer service) after a problem.............but still not as comfortable (long ride) as I'm hoping the D.G. will be. :nixweiss:

I'm late to post on this thread, butt... :drummer: I've been riding.
I went with a Saddlemen Dominator, purchased through Revzilla. I did 12000 miles thes year, 8k on the stock seat, yuck. I had a C&C on my SERK. Loved the looks, a little hard on the backside though. Rode it across the country round trip. CnC held up well but killed me on the 750 mile days.

I did an 850 mile day followed by 450 miles the next on the way to Sturgis this year with the Saddlemen Dominatorand solo with backrest. The most comfortable seat I've ever had the pleasure to ride in 26 years. It looks like it was made for my Mercury SESG with the grey stitching and carbon fiber look.

Good luck with your choice!

Hey Wild Hog. How's that bike treating you? I am still loving mine, and enjoying Corbin. I picked up another set for mine and had them upholstered and double stitched with flames to compliment the flames on our bikes. Here are a few pictures. I just got them back last night and the rear seat is just placed on the back and not actually bolted down yet.

KY-SESG how tall are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm 5'11 and like the seat but have read it is somewhat of a reduced height style, pushing the rider a bit forward? How do you feel in this compared to the stock seat, closer to the fairing, higher, lower?

Thanks for the pickys  KY-SESG, looks good, I haven't seen much in the way of saddlemen seats,
And as you say with the stitching it looks kinda custom made, how does it compare to say a mustang, any pressure points to note off?, also looks like it is nicely rounded and scolopped  by the leg (like a Corbin I suppose ), I do think shape ie rounded and scolopped in the right places has just as much to do with comfort as the amount and type of padding in a seat.

For example I've had many mustang seats and think they are comfy for me, however they could be a whole lot better if they were to realise a mans and woman's butt are not flat!, so why are there seats flat? Now they would argue once you sit on the seat it moulds to your ass, ...not true what will actually happen is you will create a pressure point at the most rounded part of you butt and after an hour or so you will notice it,
Now I think shape as mentioned is just as important, other seats with less or firmer padding but with the correct shape and rounded slightly will actually support and spread the weight of your body evenly across it and you find you can ride a hell of a lot longer, that's why I think Corbin are popular they realise this and there seats do have shape to it and even though the padding is firmer the overall support is better...we've all sat on those  curved 1/4" plywood  office chairs and been surprised how comfy they are..why.? Because of shape and even support!
I wish mustang would note this I've had long chats with them but they won't change., I would love a Corbin however this side of the water I cannot chance it not fitting properly  on my 2015 Cvo  streety and you know what there customer service is like!

Didn't mean to rant on too much about this but thought these points are worth mentioning and should form part of everyone decision when choosing a seat. :2vrolijk_21:

Hello High on HD

That seat looks killer buddy, obviously your ass and Corbin have found a good bond together! :2vrolijk_21:
You are tempting me with all these pictures though!
, I've had a lot of seats however I don't mind buying them for a touring bike because I can always swap them from touring bike to touring bike ( as long as they don't change the fender like in 2009)
As for how am I liking my bike, well I think I will never not have a street glide Cvo, I am just loving it time and again, it's just a great and well balanced bike, not fully laden all the time like an limited, yet not too stripped down like a road king where I found I needed a few more "creature" comforts" wind protection, sat nav, gauges etc...
However I just bought a softail slim last month to add to my collection as a bit of a razzler on very short trips, it's great fun sure but not a patch on the street glide Cvo, I know you can't compare the two but it is testament to how far superior the touring chassis is for long haul comfort, and comfort when riding for me equals more enjoyment...yes my street glide Cvo is here to stay of course that is till they bring the 120s version out in i'd say model year 2017. :) :2vrolijk_21:

I hear you on their customer service, and those are good points regarding choosing seats. Thanks for the compliment on mine.
I also had a feeling you were digging your bike, and congrats on the other new bike. I was fortunate enough to get in 14k miles on mine this year using the old Corbin solo off of my 08 Street Glide. Even though it was made for the old frame, all I had to do was put a couple of washers under the front post and it fit fine. To get around the whole customer service problem I found a newish Solo on eBay, bid on it and got it for cheap. Then I took it to Texas Upholstery (locally) and they worked with me to come up with the design and I had them do all four pieces. You could consider doing something similar.

I will probably put my old 08 set on eBay and altogether I believe I will have exactly what I wanted, and for a good overall price.

BTW. Take care over on that "side of the water." Be Safe.

I have to say that my 2011 CVO Streetglide stock seat is quite comfortable for myself and my wife.

I am 5'-8" 155 lbs and my wife is 5'-1" 105 lbs. We both have prett boney butts.

KY-SESG how tall are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm 5'11 and like the seat but have read it is somewhat of a reduced height style, pushing the rider a bit forward? How do you feel in this compared to the stock seat, closer to the fairing, higher, lower?
I'm 5'11" 190lbs. The SM is a little taller than stock. I didn't notice much difference in moving forward. They have figured out the US Cavalry saddle design of the 1800s made a lot of sense. Leave a channel in the middle to reduce pressure on your tailbone and other parts.  They combined that with modern materials like gel to make a great looking, durable and comfortable touring seat.

IMHO, the best thing to do is take your stock seat and have the padding redone to fit your particular need/ass.  Then it is truly custom to you and will have better cushion than stock.  I did it at Daytona rally and only cost me under $200. Bargain...

Wild Hog 4,

How does the comfort of the Le para compare to Mustang or other aftermarket quality seats?  How is long term comfort on a 400+ mile day?

Ahh... well a tricky question! and one I'd love to keep simple, so I'll try !

In short the mustang for me for the longer trips ,however it's not without it disadvantages as it sits me higher and further forward ( a trade off for having more foam in the seat).
The le pera is a wee bit firmer but shaped better and sits me in a great position ( further back and lower ) but is still very comfy , and the looks of the le pera is unsurpassed,
So if I had to choose between the two, I would choose the le Pera as overall it ticks more boxes!!

Hope this helps!

one last thing to note, I have 3 mustang seats, 2 fit perfect however the super vintage touring seat I have does not fit the 2015 cvo streety as the nose of the seat is not scalloped enough to clear the thicker tank console, I've spoken to mustang in depth about this and they deny there is a problem, they kindly shipped another one over to me ,but that didn't fit either! So I can only use my sport touring seat now which fits perfectly!
Any one with this seat and bike year combination have this issue?

Wild Hog 4,

Thanks for the post.

Is the Le Pera leather on the seating surface?  It is beautiful.  It looks better than the stock seat in the way it tapers in the back.

Comfort is good for 400 miles?

Thank you and Happy New Year!

The le pera is covered in black vinyl they call Naugahyde, a very nice looking material and resilient over time, ive done days days of 450+ no problem, the good thing with le pera is several of there seats are available in a standard version, an "up front" or "daddy long legs" version, together with custom stitching and material options and a superb friendly customer service!,
I'd recommend them to anyone!

Happy New Year to you too and indeed to all on this site  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Hey Wild Hog is that LePera seat more comfortable than the original factory seat. I'm an old Guy(60) and really like the look of that seat, however the old back side needs some comfort on long trips too. How does it work with sitting your Tea Bag on it for long trips. It looks slanted on the passenger piece. Does your luggage ride OK?. Good looking bike by the way!!

Hi Gkup

The back of this seat is tapered to flow into fender, as I don't carry pillions I choose this design, however  le pera have there  "maverick" and "Sorrento" seats which have a wider seating area for pillions, my luggage fits on my air wing rack no problem although you can balance luggage with a sassy bar on the pillion area if you wish , just that it's not as wide at the rear as some seats.....
Works for me though ! ::)

Thanks Wild Hog, I really dig the looks of that seat on you bike. Did you say it is more comfortable than the OEM seat that came with your Glide?

There's no comparison between stock and the le pera, however the stock seat is much better than previous years by far, stock seat is good for 2hrs max for me compared to several hours on the le Pera ...... When you getting your new bike ?, I've seen that blue liquorice colour a few weeks ago and it sure is sweet  :)

The new bike is in a truck somewhere between York and Iowa. I'm hoping it's here today. Really looking forward to getting it in to my garage. It's pretty cold here so breaking it in will likely take a couple of months. Since this is my forth Glide, he will be named "Clyde the 4th". I'm going to miss Clyde the 3td (12 street glide CVO) he's the best bike I've owned and Ive had many. He and I pounded out approx 40k miles since I've had him. From Iowa to Daytona to the mountains in Glacier. Sturgis to Idaho to New Orleans, and all States between. Never had a single issue
