Saying goodbye to my SERG and hello to the CVO Street Glide
« on: October 28, 2015, 12:41:47 PM »

After enjoying the 2009 CVO Road Glide for 6 years, I am purchasing this beauty on Saturday.
I saw this bike and color at Gowanda HD in Tennessee on our way home from the CVO gathering
in Maggie Valley and fell in love with the paint. Sorry to see my SERG go but cannot afford to keep
them both. Looking forward to spending the normal 10-15K to make it the way I like it but that's
what we do here right?

Congrats on the new ride.  Wishing you many safe miles and enjoyment.  You are right that we do spend the money on them to make them ours a labor of love for most.  Its just unfortunate that we have to spend some of the money that we do on them to fix/rectify items that that should have been built into these 30+k bikes.

Thanks so much Unbalanced, my cost will be 45K before it leaves the dealership with tour pak, exhaust, tuning,
etc. with another 5K easy in things that I will do to it on my own. Oh well, it's how us CVO owners roll!

I have to ask, while many of us have considered moving from a fairing to a "fixed" fairing (not the other way around) what are your impressions of the difference between the two in terms of handling?  Without the weight of the fairing the RG's have a considerable appeal, their smooth straight look is also very attractive.  Yet those of us with fairings love our bikes but (for me) I always take a long look at those beautiful RG's.

I realize this question puts you in a hard place, but at least on an analytical basis, what is your opinion of the differences between the two?

As a response to Owl, the biggest difference is with the Road Glide, it seems as if more of the peripheral view of the road up close to the bike, as well as when maneuvering the RG around my garage and in tight parking areas, is block with the width and depth of the fairing with lowers on. The RG was not set up for a 5'4" rider even with lowering blocks in the back. I think the styling of the RG is superb and it used to be a lessor seen model but now the market is expanding the RG options and sales appeal with 3 models of RG available now. The thing that pushed me over the edge though was the cobalt flames with purple flake in the paint. I hope I won't be disappointed next year when I start riding it and if so, take a 20K hit and do it all over again! Did I really just say that? Thanks for all the well wishes from this group.

Congrats on the new ride! However difficult it is and it is...... I have refrained from dumping big bucks into the big bucks bike. I'm not going down that road again. I did the stage 1 with tune, a few extra pieces of chrome and a set of Yaffe 10" apes and I'm done!  :drink:

Good luck with your attempt at refraining.   We all cave eventually!!!
