HD Garmin Sat Nav
« on: October 21, 2014, 11:25:47 PM »

I had the HD Garmin Sat Nav fitted to my CVO RK from new. I was in a hurry to leave the dealer (500 km ride home) and I did not check that the sat nav was taking power from the handlebar mount. It's not. It's under warranty but I don't want to go back to the dealer who fitted due to the distance. Before I take it to the local dealer, are there any suggestions? I have tried the auxiliary light switch and it does not appear to have been wired into this.

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Look under the seat for the cable, maybe they forgot to hook it up to the battery.

Not sure how tat unit connects to the bikes power, but if it does connect directly to the battery it should also have an in-line fuse that may be blown.  Those fuses sometimes blow hooking the line up.

The 2014 and later Touring models require a different method for connection of the power lead.  Click on the pdf attachment and look for the instructions for the 2014 (and later) Touring models for the power (red lead) connection.  Perhaps the dealer tried to wire it like the previous model years.

I believe there is also a connector between the windshield and the gas tank.

Problem solved. Went to get first service done before laying up for the winter at a dealer who I did not buy from. He came and got me from the lounge to show me the cheap plastic crimp shut connectors in the head light housing use to connect the wires o the loom. The earth wire had fallen out. Their view was it should have been soldered and then shrink sealed. Needless to say, I will be having a word with the dealer who fitted in the first place and will get it reconnected properly early next season. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.
