Ensenada, Mexico GTG....Feb. 21, 2015
« on: February 22, 2015, 06:22:50 PM »

Andy (ak) flew in from Cupertino, Ca.....Don (DDavidson) rode down from Fremont, Ca.....Lou & Terry (grandpadoc) rode down from Lake Elsinore, Ca....Wayne (Resurection) rode down from north San Diego County and Babe and I from Coronado participated in this first CVO GTG south of the border.

Everybody met here in Coronado early yesterday morning.  We were kickstands up with full tank at 9:00 a.m.  We immediatly learned that Andy had a flat tire but waved us on and utilizing Road America road service.  We rolled through Coronado village and down south while Andy called Sweetwater Harley Davidson to make sure they had a tire while we waited for the truck to show up.  He was set and would be about two hours behind us.

Wayne is a new member to the forum from right here in San Diego, riding an 05 Cherry SEEG.  I might add that it is cherry, too!  :2vrolijk_21:  Glad to took the plunge and joined us Wayne and look forward to our next ride together.

Headed south on the Silver Strand......it was going to be a nice weekend and great riding weather.  I rode the entire day in shirt sleeves.  :)

After getting our Mexico insurance and back up on the freeway, just another 1/4 mile and we're at the boarder......

Our GPS maps are supposed to be North America but we all quickly learned that something was seriously wrong with that, this weekend.  Fortunately, several of us have been down into Mexico and number of times and so we continued on....

Rosarito Beach first stop......

and then Puerto Nuevo for lunch.....

The San Diego area has a lot of vehicles with Baja California license plates.  It quickly became apparent that about 50% of the vehicles in Baja California are from the US with a large majority being from California.  US tourists are vitally important to this region.

Puerto Nuevo is a nice little coastal community....

Don and Wayne were seranaded by the mariachi band while we waited for out lunch.....

OK, it was the entire table being seranaded......  :)

and leave it to your truely to shinning along the railing on the exterior, ocean side of the building to get a shot from the outside looking in.....sometimes you just have to be willing to take your life into your own hands to get these kind of shots.

OK dummy....put the camera lens up against the glass. to cut the reflection....

and Don thinkin BIG....

in more ways than one.....

After lunch we decided to stroll the village and shops.....walk off some of the groceries we'd just downed.

A quick call to Andy confirms that he's in the middle of his tire changes (opted for both tires) and he'll be about another hour.  We were taking our time along the way, so that he'd take the toll road and roll into Ensenada about the same time as us.  We killed an hour or so in this little village so it was time to roll south again.

Much of the Baja California coast looks like it does further north, acorss the boarder in California.....rugged and beautiful!

There are several toll stations along our route.  But much like meals and pretty much everything else in this country......much cheaper than it's counterparts in the US.  I believe all four bikes was only $5.

Finally....we arrive in Ensenada  :2vrolijk_21:

where they can get away with trucks definately overloaded......a motorcyclist has no business following this guy.....quick, get in front!  It's really scarry when a 1 ton dually going down the road looks like it's going to tip over any minute.  :nervous:

the port of Ensenada and a cruise ship in port

Getting everybody registered at the Best Western El Cid was an experience.  Like everything and everybody in Mexico.....just not in any hurry about anything.  Must have taken half hour to register us for four rooms.  We've stayed at this hotel a number of times.....done in the typical Mexican cultur with lots of spanish tile work everywhere.

with great views of the heart of downtown Ensenada....not much foot traffic in the early afternoon.  However, Ensenada is known for it's night life and as the evening grew, so did the foot traffic.

We retreat back to the hotel and take a break for a couple of hours until the sun goes down.  We decided on Italian for dinner...a good choice and righ around the corner from the hotel.

Lou, Andy, Don and Wayne working their way back across the street after spending an hour or so just standing on the street watching all the locals while shairing memories and telling stories.  Man, these impromptu, informal GTGs are the best.....

This morning we woke up to the streets being cleaned very early by some sort of run (5k, 10k, marathon??)....

Soon we were on the road, headed through Mexico's wine country, to Tecate, Mexico...

Just short of arriving in Tecate, we stopped at Rancho Tecate    http://www.ranchotecate.mx/      , a Mexican resort that caters mostly to Americans, for breakfast

[

It was a great weekend with good friend, good food and good ridein.  Look forward to the next time.....and there will be a next time.....we've already talked about it.  If you want to get on the next south of the boarder GTG, make sure your passport is current.  For those that told us they wanted to go but didn't have a passport.....get down to the post office and apply now and you'll have it in time for our next ride south.

Andy, Don, Lou & Terry, Wayne.....it was a great time and Babe and I both enjoyed your company.  We look forward to the next one!  :2vrolijk_21:

Terry and I really enjoyed our trip yesterday and hope to do it again soon. Thanks JC for giving all of us the nudge to revisit one of our favorite motorcycle destinations.
