Camino Del Rey Rd. and De Luz Rd
« on: March 15, 2015, 06:44:57 PM »

I've rode these roads a couple of times and De Luz Rd. came up in another topic....so thought I'd get some pics up.  I have to apologize up front.....some of these pics were taken on one trip with my iphone while the others were taken with my Nikon.

Depending on where you're coming from, you may approach these roads from other directions.  For me, I approached them from I-15 North from San Diego and exited at Gopher Canyon Rd. (another road that I've rode) and went north along the frontage of old historic US395 to Camino Del Rey Rd.

Heading west on Camino Del Rey Rd. takes you through a little valley about five miles with some beautiful little ranchettes.  In Bonsall I turned right on to Ca76 (Mission Rd) a couple of blocks to right on S13 (county rd. 13) which is more commonly known as South Mission Rd.

Upon arriving in Fallbrook, I made the slight right turn on to Main St. and old town.  Stopped by Las Brisas Taqueria for some of the best carne asada tacos I've had in this area.  This place is pretty authentic.  It was definately Mexico inside and out.

Just a couple of blocks on up Main St. you turn left on Mission Rd. one block and then right onto De Luz Rd.  While the first half of this ride is nice, I have to agree with others when they say that De Luz Rd. is one of the nicest rides in the Fallbrook-Temecula area.  This road is also closest that I've found here in So Cal to the many hundreds (thousands?) of roads/rides in Nor Cal.  Quiet, two lane road, very little traffic if any, a number of tree canopied cover stretches, wildlife ( a large coyote ran in front of me on my prior ride), many places where the road drops down in to creekbeds with water flowing over the roadbed, many areas with actual forests that allow you to ride in shade (even though it's 90F + temps back here in Coronado/San Diego area), etc.  Some of the road signs help to describe this road in more detail....

And one of the many canopy covered stretches along the way.....and another sign that tells a story

and many signs like this.....where the road drops down in to the bottow of the creekbeds.  Quite possibly water will be running across the road.  They have large, deep groves saw cut across the road to allow water to flow more directly while providing you with better traction.

and again, a tree canopied lane wandering through the oak grove......

Leaving San Diego County we're about to enter Riverside County....and another sign cautioning us that the road is windy and twisty for the next XX miles....

As you come out of the woods you're on top of a ridgeline above Temecula and the rest of the valley below.

This route will dump you out right at the edge of the touristy Old Town Temecula on the north end.  You can turn right at the stop light and cruise through Old Town to Temecula Harley Davidson.  Not a real big dealership, no lounge area like other So Cal dealerships but they are genuinely very friendly.

From Temecula HD, got back on I-15 south and exited at Gopher Canyon Rd. west....

Headed for Biggs Harley Davidson in San Marco, Calif.  They have things going on there.....

And this dealership, my friends, is where we found Marty's new bike waiting for him.   NOTE TO MARTY:  Make sure you look at the red one next to it before you pull the trigger......it's an incredably beautiful bike!  :2vrolijk_21:

In my case it was a large coyote that came from the side of the hill above me and ran right in front of me.  :nervous:

The road resembles one of the rides during the Pala GTG.

It was 88 degs here Saturday and DRY!  :-\

Can't control the drought but can enjoy the great riding conditions it helps provide.

Good to see you've got plenty to explore and are taking advantage.

Spring Break at Lake Havasu has to be coming up soon!

De Luz is the exact road.

What were the odds of that?  I never made it to the Pala GTG (although I've been to the casino several times since moving to Coronado)....I was 400 miles away at the time of the GTG.  Who would think that a couple years later I'm going to stumble on to some little two lane road in the hills (these guys down here call them mountains. LOL) and it would be one and the same.  :nixweiss:

I thought you bought another SEEG so that you wouldn't have to dump a boat load of $$ into a new bike?  :nixweiss:

Anyway, either way, that red one is beautiful by all standards.  Either one of you or both of you would look good on that bike! :2vrolijk_21:  So the race is on....who's going to pull the trigger first?   ;)

Marty will, I don't want to part with two for one, yet. But that color caught my heart, I love it. Still have one here in Lancaster sitting there calling my name every time I go to the dealer. I was 90% there convincing Donna to give her blessing, but she is the smarter one and I have to live with what I've got, for now.
