Learned about this from a friend today and it seemed worthwhile to pass on. I'm sure others have thought of this but I have yet to see it mentioned in a thread. When you take your Rushmore bags off the bike, what do you do with the pins and where do you place the bags?

With some 18 Guage copper stranded wire, eight 1/16" ferrules (and a ferrule crimper) and some gorilla glue or Loctite instant automotive glue, you don't have to worry about the pins. Make simple, wire retainers for the pins and glue the metal washer to the rubber grommet around the hole. See photos. Total cost is under $6.
Now if you don't have a bag stand or a towel handy, how about some 1/2" furniture pads (for hard floors or even vinyl bumpers) for the saddle bag bottoms. Six on each bag: four at the corners and two in the middle. Once they are mounted, you cannot see them. If you ever have to take your bags off on the side of the road, you'll be happy you installed these. Costs even less.
