117 Bolt on Cylinders and Piston Kit
« on: May 17, 2016, 07:45:19 PM »

Greetings,

For those of us always searching for more bottom end torque would there be any benefit to purchasing the 117 bolt in cylinder and piston kit and continue using the stock 110 throttle body/injectors and S/E 255 cams?

Also or conversely would those of us with the 30t sprockets get enough benefit from that combo's better gear ratio to make up for the loss of bottom end torque caused by the full kit's use of the S/E 259 cams?

I was always told that there is no substitute for cubic inches!!!!   I have a 2009 S/E Roadglide with the 30t sprocket and Fullsac 2" baffles in the stock muffler bodies.  I like the fact that the S/E 255's work down low even though they do make a lot of noise.  I ride two up almost all the time and we are not small people.

Thoughts?

Good question Steve.

I too have a '09 SERG with a 30th sprocket, but with Fullsac 2.5" baffles.  I ride mostly 2-up.

I'll wait and see what the verdict is on your questions.

Thanks for asking.

Sorry, I was WAY too lazy to refer to my ride as a FLHTRSE3, excuse the chit out of me for not using the correct model designation...

Where are people making less torque down low with the 259E cam over the stock 255 cam?  Mine made more power everywhere with the full kit installed.

greetings again,

Seriously no-one else but me thought about doing just the pistons and cylinders????   I thought that doing just that would make more torque simply do to the increase in cubic inches.

Too much static compression is going to be your answer. You need to increase duration to keep static compression in line. I was thinking about a 117 with a SE 585 but the SE 259 is killing it in this build!

I did just pistons & cylinders as I already had the 58 mm TB , 5.3 inj & 570G cams. It turned out ok but may swap heads & cams as I have another set as well. Build details & results in my signature.

What he said.

FWIW, it was alluded to earlier:  No one has lost power installing the 259E.  I'm sure there's torquier options, however you'll at no point in the RPM range have reduced performance over your existing bike.  The 259 happens to carry that torque out a bit farther.

585's have also been tried and I don't see that as having stellar results.

The dyno sheets I’ve seen have been hit and miss as far as that low end on the 117 kit. Yours looks awesome. I’ve been pondering the kit and your dyno sheet is encouraging, I really don’t wanna lose my low end or have to spend additional money to make the kit work well.

Still waiting on a dyno sheet that has lost power anywhere. :worthless:

I've seen some sheets posted on other sites, but didn't save them. However, the exhaust and quality of tune I'm sure can affect those things as well.

The SE255 in the 117 would be a terrible mismatch

I'm nearly certain I didn't lose any bottom end....
