Tour Pack removal Instructions.
« on: February 08, 2008, 11:02:03 PM »

Considering how many of us would just love to have our 06-08 SECVO ultra's tour pack to be removed and replaced easily I wonder if any one out there who knows EXACTLY how to do it the best way could come up with a list of instructions??

Removal of tour packs for dummies guide?? lol...lol...lol...

I know many of you are amazing with doing work on your bikes (Ive seen the pics on this site to prove it).  Can someone with experience of 06  tour pack removal possibly come up with step by step instruction with pictures???

I know this is easier said then done and there must be many custom mods being performed but I just wanted to throw it out there.  After being a member of this site for a few years now I know for sure that there is at least 12 guys with my exact bike who could do this now with there eyes shut.

Thanks
Michael

Dummy..er um..Michael ;D

I have done many TP removals although I do nothave an 06. Most all of the removals I have done involve the install of the Hawg-wired amp kit as well. Unfortunatly I have not documented one but given the oppurtunity I will .

First question I have for you is are you wanting to keep the Harmon Kardon amp? If so you will need to relocate it to one of the saddlebags. I believe a couple of members have done this. Other I know have eliminated it all together. This involves removing the "overlay" audio harness and amp in its entirety. The stereo system will then work as a normal (non SE) Ultra.

From there HD sells a complete kit (part# 53303-07) that includes all you need to make the TP removeable.

Hey ... First off thanks for your help.

After thinking about it I would like to be able to have the tour pack detachable and be able to keep the 4 speaker set up when it is attached to the bike.

So id want to keep the amp I guess.  Install it in the saddlle bag would be ok...its not that big of an amp is it?

It would be great if I could just detach tour pack and unplug a line disconnecting the rear 2 speakers easily...  im afraid to ask  about the cb wires??

Im good with tools and used to be an electrician but im getting nervous....lol...lol...

Go the detachable route, remove the amp and overlay and add Hawg Wired from Jim. You wont be disappointed! I added two speakers in my lowers for a total of six with the tourpack and four without it. In retrospect it was real easy, scary thought at first though. Jim is great and will answer any and all questions.

So where is your amp?  What did you do with the cb wires?

So where is your amp?  What did you do with the cb wires?

My amp sits on the basement floor and the CB wire coil up under the seat. All four speakers work without the amp, just like on the non-CVO Ultra. The amp is not required for 4-speaker operation, just for more volume. It is a P&A item.

The stereo is fine without the amp. If you want LOTS of power, then the HW set up is for you.

Enjoy.

Not including the Hawg-wired install, to remove the HK amp and overlay harness should not tak more than one hour (I can have the amp and harness out in about 30 minutes) To install the detach kit, tour pack rack, anntenna relocation, license plate kit should not be more than 2 hours (if they are really slow)
