Here's the hitch brackets as seen from ground level. There is a bit more exposed but I think it'll be OK.

I did that too, but I made a "Y" connector - one leg to the LED strip and one leg to the FLHX tail/brake light, using the connection in the tour pak.  Same thing but different....  I did not have to bend the hitch to clear though...it is close, but clears without having to bend it...

I remember Don said he had to wiggle things around and I tried that for quite a bit of time before I gave up and started bending it. Evidently not all fenders have the same bends. Mine is evidently closer in than yours.

Last one for tonight. Here's the battery box with the fender and some more of the wires that get crammed into the small space back there.

Yeah, there are a lot of joints and connections that end up with either having clearance or not having clearance.  A little here and a little there adds up - commulative tolerance stack up I think they call it...  ;)

I'm tight everywhere. Just getting the fender mounted at all five points requires a good bit of uncurling to get the bolts in. I guess my fender radius is tighter which causes the problem I ran into.

That definitely is an area where you want to start all the fasteners before tightening any of them...  ;)

I forgot to mention that I cut off the hoop that used to wrap around from one side of the frame to the other.

I wanted to put in the Auto-Gem Shotgun lights to fill in the holes in the pipe. Once I found out that they want $125 for two of their lites, I decided some head bolts with some head bolt covers will be just fine.

Chuck,
Thanks for the pictorial update. :2vrolijk_21: I have to tip my hat to all you guys/gals that can do/enjoy doing this type of stuff. It's more then I'd ever try to do because of all the potential I see for me to F... err mess up. :nervous: Which would end up causing me to spend more $$$$ for someone to come behind me and fix my F... err mess ups. ;D

Yea, tighten, loosen, remove, use drift pins, everything I could find to help do it with only two hands. The fender on my 1999 FLHTC was not like that at all, everything lined up perfectly on that one. I just wasn't so lucky on this one. Although this frame seems to be truer than the first one. On the first one, there was almost 1/4" difference in the shock span left to right. This one is dead nuts on.

Chuck, the hitch looks totally fine.  The view in the photo attached to reply #143 is going to be the view you see all the time, not the one from the lower vantage point in reply #137.  You done good! :2vrolijk_21:

Bike is looking great and you've made a lot of progress! :shocked2:

Thanks Brian. I think it will be fine. The Bushtec is great for hiding as well as it does. A little exposed bracket won't be a problem.

I wanted to get it up on the wheels this weekend, but you know how that goes. ;)

I guess you're right about that. I just need to find somebody local to me that is a good wrench and hates detailing. We could then barter our services and both be happy. :2vrolijk_21:
