Porthole, do you know the make & model of the bag you have? Did your tank suffer from using it for 8 days? I know it's a concern that the paint will be marked, but I only figure on using it for part of an upcoming trip. Hopefully if I'm careful & use lots of wax I can get away with it. Thanks for the comeback.

I bought this bag at Deals Gap, halfway through our trip. It was the best thing I got during the trip next to the really good deal on a helmet at Ghost Town HD.
It is a SBW Concepts "mini tank bag"
http://www.sbwconcepts.com/bag.htmlThe magnets are in a pocket and can be removed and just straps used. Personally, I think using straps on a painted surface will scratch the paint (bag moving around).
My tank was clean when I put the bag on and I used it for over 1500 miles, taking it on and off throughout the next 4-5 days.
Wasn't cheap, I think I paid about $50 for it.
I never regretted it.
The bag will hold my camera, cell phone and a granola bar or two, kept my debit card in there too and kept my wallet buried in the tourpak.
There are no scratches on my tank from the bag.
I know it looks a little fugly, but is was function over form that I wanted
