Been meaning to do this - and wondering if I can used one of the Aux switches on my handlebars...  Or put a momentary switch somewhere discrete.

Sean

It will work, but no need to run additional switches or wiring.  You can tie into the power for the High beam on the bike.

lilbear - I have a Liftmaster opener. Any suggestions/help is appreciated.

Lifmaster remotes typically use a 3V lithium battery which adds a little to the circuit, but still not difficult.  I also believe that the onboard Liftmaster receiver is compatible with Genie "Code Hopper" remotes which operate on a single 12V battery (the tiny newer models use a 3V coin though).  With the proper remote programmed or "married" to your opener, you can easily install it on the bike.  If it is simply a 12V battery operated remote, remove the battery from the remote, solder leads to the battery terminals and also solder in a jumper across the remote button contacts on the remote.  Attach the leads to ground and your high beam leads on the bike and every time you flip on the high beam, the garage door opener will transmit.  You can further complicate the circuit by adding pulse fire relays and transmit timing capacitors, but it is overkill and not at all necessary.  If your remote operates on a voltage other than 12V, you will need to add a divider network to drop the bike voltage to the proper operating voltage of the remote.  (PM me with specifics and I'll let you know what you need).  Of course, it is easiest if you can find a compatible remote which operates on 12VDC.

The Harley unit is a rolling code type opener.

The biggest problem I have with HD's transmitter and receiver is they periodically loose each other and have to be re-married. I've not had one to last over 2 months. I was the same way before I met JD.

Fortunately (for me) never had that happen here Ken.  Have a receiver on a door at the shop and the door here at the house.  Two bikes now transmitting to those receivers.  Both receivers have been up about four years now.  Never had to clear and reprogram or just reprogram.  Any chance you're getting some line problems out there that might queer the receiver unit occasionally?

Your post seem to imply it might not be. Since he just had it installed...

FWIW, I have had one for over a year and it works perfect.

Glad to hear it's working fine.  Just would like to add that there are much less expensive routes with a little tighter security than the HD option if you don't already have the hardware supplied with the SEUC's and SEEG's.  The SERKs didn't come with the transmitter/receiver's nor the SE-Vrods nor the Springers, Dynas, FatBoys, SERGs,.. so for less than $20 per bike(even less if you have spare remotes), you can set up multiple bikes for multiple door openers fairly easily.

Mine was included with the bike when I bought it, took about 5 minutes to hook up and it works great so far. my opener is 15 years old so it is one of the old style without the light beam on the floor and  I assume I have no rolling codes

The one on my SEEG works perfectly and has since new but the one on the 03 does not work, I've even replaced the transmitter on the bike and still nothing. I think the problem is mating the SERK to the receiver, how do you do that. I push the learning button on the garage door opener and that works with programming the cars but is there something else to do with the HD receiver? :nixweiss:

Unlike most where you push the button on the receiver then work the transmitter on the Harley receiver you push the button and continue holding it down while rocking the headlight swtich back and forth and back and forth.

Sounds like a malfunction with the mechanisms

A failure of the fulcrum.  Need to recharge the duotonic capacitive dishcarge inductor.  The pull the start cord.  Oh yeah, and make sure the batter is up.
