Ok, your drinking wine coolers so we will let that go.  If you were drinking beer, it would be F$%ing 110!

...no I'd never do that to a perfectly good beer. Those are wine coolers from the early eighty's and have been out of production for many years. I just used them to demonstate how disappointed I am about the 110's being carried over for another year when they can't get rid of the ones in the showroom now. Glad to see the RG make the list again though. I'll be happy to keep my 00 for a little while longer and maybe put a Jim's in it.  Doc

80' vintage wine..not bad.. even over ice.. Yea I'm glad to see the RG made it too. I didn't study the EPA list but did i hear the Road King Custom is back??? I'm planning to install a Jims this fall. Can't decide on the 120 or 131 though..Proably should go all the way... I'm getting exctited just thinking about..

I don't believe the reason they have CVO's sitting on the showroom floor are because of the 110's...IMO.  I think it's just a sign of the times, with the economy being the way it is right now.  Motorcycles are considered a luxury item and is one of the first things to be given up when times get rough.  Look at the showroom floors at the dealerships.  They almost have as many MC's on the floor now, in the peak riding season, as they did in the winter and spring.  A couple of years ago, you wouldn't see any motorcycles (maybe a couple of sporties or v-rods) on the showroom floor this close to the introduction of the new models.  In fact, only two seasons ago, one of the local dealers was saying "screw the MoCo, and selling his next year models he already had received, before the annual dealer's meeting, so that he'd have bikes to sell.  Now that same dealer is offering deals on the over-stock of 08's that he has.  Most people don't know anything about the potential issues with the 110's.  I'm very happy with my 110 and love the bike, and even knowing what I do about it, I'd buy another one, without hesitation.

I think you're right on with that assessment RedDevil.....the used bike market is really soft for big bikes now (not the smaller fuel efficient ones) and the new models will feel the pinch next if not already.  Inflation will be hitting us shortly as the high cost of fuel filters thru the total economy......it's not just a 'housing' thang.  :nervous: aaaargh.  spyder

Nobody's been more vocal about these 110's than me. And I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one! The motor's got great potential and can be made reliable even if HD won't spend the $$$ to do it right. Some will deal with the W.....ty, some will fix it themselves. But they can be made to run real strong. After all, this chit ain't rocket science! ;)

Oh my, Hoist got some cool-aid too.  40K for a bike with potential  :znotworthy: 110's Drink more cool-aid  That could be a rational statement for someone buying a 883... :drink: I mean he may have a good point after all.

No cool-aid gramps, alergic to the chit! :D

Just sayin, even if they weren't leaking, they still need help. All EPA HD's need help anyway. So give it the help you're willing to so you can enjoy the bike. I don't know many people that can stay with a stock HD these days. When the SERK3 first came out, I thought I could. And then I woke up! ;D ;D ;D

...ok I thought you went to the dark side for a minute. :o  Keep up the good work on enabling a fix, but I think the shortcut would be a Jim's and leave the stock engine stored for emission checks and trade in time. Doc

I agree. If I knew what I'd wind up doing to my motor ahead of time, I'd have probably went with a Jims 131. But I do believe I have a better motor than that too now! ;)

Howie,

I know you have posted with great detail on what you have done with your build, but in a 2 sentence (notice the the restriction)
summary what would you have done in the build knowing what you know now? forgetting the complete replacement as an option
And what would you anticipate that build to cost if replicated?

please forgive me Guys.....

In the end, it's kinda simple now. Build the bottom end properly. Cases split and modified for a Timken bearing and new forged S&S crank. Then the top end needs some good head work, new pistons, Axtell cylinders and Cometic head gaskets, cams, pushrods, lifters (debatable about gear drive vs hydraulic, and replacing the oil pump), larger TB w/good intake, D&D Performance Fatcats, and a great tune! That's basically it. There's also the small details and finishing touches. Doing it right from the beginning from top to bottom, shouldn't cost more than about 7 grand. Cost me 8500 because I did it 3 times to get it right. Plus I bought new cases on top of that. ;)
