Pics of Mufflers Cores For Our '09's
« on: September 11, 2008, 09:00:05 PM »

Hey Gang,

Called Steve at Fullsac http://www.fullsac.com/recored.htmltoday, spoke with him about 30 Min. Specifically about these replacement cores for our stock muffs and what to do to "un-cork" our 110"s with out going deaf. This gist of it is on a scale of 1 to 10 1 being 'Stock" and 10 being drag pipes Steve felt like with 1 3/4 cores(Bottom pic) that we should be somewhere around a 5-6. I know that's very subjective. He makes his own cores and has his own 250I dyno to do his R&D on. Let me be very clear here, this isn't a commercial for Steve I simply felt like after talking to him at length that he knew what's up and that it would be good info. He is receiving an '09 Muff Friday and will see if these cores will fit , if not he will design one. I also asked him about the X-over being restrictive (yes) and about possibly making a larger volume one (yes) He believes that we have cats in both muffs, guess we'll find out Friday. He also seemed to think that we could have less exhaust going to the left muff due to the x-over. He'll have his '09 in about a week, so he'll get after it and see what's there, possibly designing his own system Install should be very simple  like someone else said just remove the three spot weld with a die grinder, slip the old core out and the new one in. If you don't like the sound slide the stock core back in and away you go. the Pics are from bottom up 1 3/4",2.0'Fulsac Cores, and STOCK ON TOP. the inlet end is on the right . first bulge is the  Cat... Now you can see why the STOCK ones won't flow>>>> He recommended the 1 3/4' core, that would be the quietest but still uncork it. I have a new Super Sert coming and will have Ed tweaking it. You Go TEX ...

We should know something tomorrow when he gets those 09 SERG muffs in. You might want to chat with him about any future mods to get the ponies up. Don't know about DB levels, but if you go with a cam, some minor valve/head work down the road; then the 2" may be the core of choise. Dunno, just thinkin out load here....

Of course if air box and muffs are the end of the trail then.....

Hi Guys it's my muffs he should be getting tomorrow.  I was going to go with the 2 in cores.  He said it's always easier to go quieter.  I'm hoping its not to  loud but still has a good rumble.
I'm hoping to get them back late next week and will get them on asap can't wait to hear it.  Good news the bikes in the garage up on my bike jack and with no muffs and rainy forcast for the weekend I can get around to adding a couple of items I ordered.

I also talked to Steve at Fullsac on the telephone today and ended up ordering the 2" cores, hopefully they will ship next week but first he has to confirm that the cores will work properly with the 09' exhaust (thanks tdowell65 for shipping your mufflers to Fullsac). I prefer a bit deeper/louder tone so I ordered the 2" core. As Texas 103 stated, the 1-3/4" cores might be better for longer touring, especially if you want to hear your radio/cd better. Steve said that he was not offering the 1-7/8", only the 1-3/4" and 2" cores for the 09' models. Steve sent me a few pictures of the process to replace the cores and it looks fairly easy to do and should only take about 1/2 hour to complete the process. Steve was very confidant that most anybody could replace their own cores...the end result is that the downtime will be minimal to do-it-yourself. Worst case would be that you could take your mufflers somewhere local and have them use a die grinder to grind the weld, go back home and put it back together and you are still out riding the same day.

I had Steve do his magic with my stock mufflers off of my '06 CUSE.  His quality is first class, any you will not be disappointed with his work.  The 2" cores have a good sound, and will add power and torque.  I am having him do another set for me with the 1.75" cores for a little less volume.  I should get them back today.  He now bolts the baffles in instead of welding, as He did my first set.  This gives you the option of inter-changing the baffles from 1.75" to 2" and even back to stock  :nixweiss:.   It looks to me that the mufflers on the '09s are the same as the '06 - '08s.  I haven't checked part #'s yet , but they look identical to mine.
