Dumb Stupid question?
« on: December 09, 2008, 02:03:21 PM »

I notice in some of the pics that you have removed the reflectors on the saddle bags and front forks. How did you do this without wrecking the paint?

Drag a piece of dental floss or fishing line behind the reflector to cut the adhesive strip.

Drag a piece of dental floss or fishing line behind the reflector to cut the adhesive strip.

Then clean it up with goof off, followed by a wax or other polish

Aw, c'mon.  Just leave the gluey gookey mess behind to prove you actually did something to begin with.  Anyone can clean it up.  Show you've got some stones and leave it there to prove you did something to begin with!

I thought that was a talent not a product name.

Sheesh, if I could bottle it I'd be rich. I've got it in spades lately  :P

indenial, a heat gun or hair dryer will soften the glue and just slowly peel away. i then use breakclean on a cloth to
wipe away the residue and then some wax,  tada good to go.      axil

Good advice above.  I'd sure rather ask a stupid question that scratch that beautiful paint!!  (orange peel or not).  Let us know how it tuns out!

You gotta be smart enough to understand the rules of motorcycling, and dumb enough to think the game's important.

Same. Worked great. Had another set of hands helping and it was super easy.

Here are my steps - all of which were talked about above:
1. Heat with hair dryer
2. Use floss to separate the reflector from the bike
3. Use goo gone to clean the glue off
4. Wash off with water
5. 2 coats of wax

Didn't someone recommend using Coca~Cola  :confused5: Just pour it over the forks and let it sit for a few hours.
