Tourpack/Passenger Seat on 2009 CVO Ultra
« on: December 28, 2008, 11:41:36 PM »

Hey 2009 CVO Ultra folks.

Finally got the time to take the wife out for a ride on the Ruby 09.  This was not a fun day.  She swears the seat is the most uncomfortable seat she's been on and that the tourpack was positioned too far forward.  She like the 2005 HD Ultra much better.

The questions:
1. Did they change the seat arrangement from the 2005 Ultras (non-CVO)?  By picture I can't see a difference.
2. Is the tourpack position adjustable?  I think if I could move it back 2-inches it'll be better for her.  She said the new seat makes her sit forward.

Anyone else having this passenger problem?
Note that getting a new passenger would not be a good idea - I'll lose the bike (haha).

Ultrafun,

My wife has the same complaint, the tourpack appears to have the option to move it forward or back, mine appears to already be in the most rearward posiiton.

I feel you pain..cheaper to keep her...lol

For many years the dealers nearly always seemed to assemble them in the forward most position.  The bikes came to the dealers with the tour pak on backwards to shorten the bike for shipping.  The new ones come differently though.  Read a MoCo doc that said they'd all get to the owner now with the pak in the rear most position.  Of course that by no means suggest they'll all actually be assembled that way.  So it's best to check.

I have a 2005 Ultra, After the Kuryakyn tour pac relocator broke, I replaced it with George Anderson's relocator. It worked great, it has a sturdy design, and will last a long time. My wife really enjoyed the extra seat room.  Now I own a 2009 Ultra CVO. (Got it in August) I took the tour pac apart and could not move it back from the way it came from the factory.  I called up George Anderson.  He said he would get one designed as soon as he could find a 09 Ultra.  He called me about a month ago , and I got one from him. It is top quality! Took less than an hour to install. ( I have put on 4 of them so far) It moved the tour pac back about 2.5 inches.  If you need the seat room this is a great option.                                      Give him a call @ 309-762-6291, or 309-236-0952.   Hope this helps, Chris

Thanks Folks,

Just got home from the HD shop.  Good for MOCO they did have the tourpack in the correct (seat furthest back) position.  Unfortunate for me I still have an unhappy wife.  Looks like I'll need to give George a call.  Thanks Chris!

Chris,
I think we may have met in Charlottesville, VA in October while on the 05 Ultra and still waiting for the 09 CVO.

I did compare the 09 HD Ultra and the 09 CVO Ultra seatbacks while at the shop.  The CVO backs are about an inch thicker.

Ultrafun,
I was in Charlotteville in July .  We did a trip to the Outerbanks , and stoped at Menticello on the way home.  I was on my 05 Ultra.   I did take a day off work this fall and toured around that area , that may be when we met. I was trying to put some miles on the CVO while the weather was still good.

Chris, where are you in W Va?  If I get one of those relocators from George, maybe you want to help put a 5th one on.  I can't believe you can do that in less than an hour.  It takes me that long just to bend over and put my shoes on anymore...okay, maybe not that long.  I do like riding in W Va.  There are some great roads to travel there.  I'm up in the Pittsburgh area, and I seem to end up in W Va at least 2 to 4 times per month for a ride.

Definitely check the mounting position.  My wife keeps commenting on how much more room she has on the '09 than she did on the '06.  I'm sure its the mounting position but I keep telling her she must have lost weight! I know where my bread is buttered ...hahaha

cheers!

Fired00d,

We ride from Williamsburg to, or thru, Charlottesville as a fun day ride.  Lunch at Michie's in Monticello and then one of our scenic VA roads, Blue Ridge, Rt. 20, 24, 60, 321, 522, etc....
