Sad to see Brussels closing. Dealt with them a few years back when my Fat Boy had issues; they took it in and had me on the road within the hour. Good crew there.

Got a email last month saying Fletchers HD in Clearwater Fl is closing, been there 48 years. Went there today as everything except bikes is now 30% off. Mr Fletcher had passed away earlier this summer but his daughters had operated the business for several years. I had heard the girls were just giving up without his guidance but today parts guy stated HD came in after his passing and let them know they needed another 1 Mil update or new building and the sales people needed to retrain for aggression or be replaced. So they closed instead, HD and parking lot sign as well as service dept are already gone, stock being sold off. Just very sad, lots of good guys worked there, hate to see them without a job.

Hate to see this dealership go, were great to deal with, parts and service for me anyway, I purchased quite a bit from them, great place to stop in and chat, and made me feel more welcome than two Canadian dealerships I go to. Thanks Greg and staff for your service, hope to get out there before the end of October.

This Press Release is going out today. But I want to personal thank each & everyone of you for being who you are and supporting this dealership. I want to invite each of you so we can share stories and reminiscence about the past

Greg Head, Owner

Mt. Baker Harley-Davidson closing Bellingham store

Mt. Baker Harley-Davidson in Bellingham will be closing this fall, owner Greg Head announced today.

Head, owner of Mt. Baker Harley-Davidson at 1421 N. State St., said, "It was a difficult decision to close. We've been successful since I took over in early 2010 due to fantastic employees and tremendously loyal Harley-Davidson riders." Head adds, "With our lease ending soon, we first considered a new and larger location. However, in working with Harley-Davidson, a market analysis revealed limited opportunities for further growth."

"The decision to close has been very personal for us since many of the employees and customers are considered close friends. It's been a pleasure serving our customers and we thank them," said Head.

Mt. Baker Harley-Davidson has 10 employees and some will be offered opportunities at other Harley-Davidson dealerships. All of the employees will receive assistance from the WorkSource Whatcom Career Center in seeking jobs and learning about available benefits and resources.

As for himself, Head said, "I feel honored to have been a Harley-Davidson dealer and our family looks forward to exploring other ways we can help more riders experience Harley-Davidson, the culture and the lifestyle it provides."

Since Head became owner of Mt. Baker Harley-Davidson, the store has supported numerous nonprofit organizations locally, including Toys for Tots, Lighthouse Mission and Agape House, WomenCare Shelter, Boys and Girls Club, Whatcom Humane Society, Whatcom County Hospice Foundation, and the Ryan Stiles Celebrity Golf Classic, a fundraiser for the Burned Children Recovery Foundation.

Mt. Baker Harley-Davidson will cease being a Harley-Davidson Dealership on Oct. 31.

Tough environment to come into when they bought the dealership.

They did well to hang on through tough times as well, with unemployment still high in the state and area a business dealing in products that are a discretionary purchase, a lot of decisions obviously had to be made when they needed to decide about a new facility.

Committing to multiple millions for a facility improvement would be difficult.

The to see it go regardless.

Now there's some real compassion being shown by the MOCO.  2vrolijk_21

Of course it's a business and they don't get their cut if sales are down and it's after a business, not a calling. "If I have to explain you wouldn't understand" only goes so far when people and their families are concerned. Cold business climate out there these days.  soapbox

I am surprised that Southern Thunder H-D hear in Horn Lake, Ms is still open. Service dept can't even change tires without screwing it up...  different bikes first hand experience 8 times over 3 years! All CVO's are $3k to $5k over msrp. Feel like I am getting slimed every time I go there. I live 3 miles from soluthern thunder and do 90% of my business with the 2 Bumpus dealerships 28 and 35 miles away!

In just a few weeks it will be 3 years since this topic was started... It has definitely been tough on many businesses (all over the world) during this time.

I wonder how many dealerships have permanently closed vs. how many new dealerships have opened since January 2009?
