Will you argue your points? Trying to decide
« on: February 13, 2009, 12:32:34 PM »

The dealer called and has a 2009 SERG in Titanium in stock.  Should I trade the 2008 SEUC or not.  I am posting this in the SERG Blog as well.  Please help me decide.

Sting,

The answer is obvious!  KEEP BOTH!!    :bananarock:  $.02:  :soapbox:  You're asking the forum to decide for you without giving nearly enough information.  :nixweiss:  It is thus doubtful you'll get information personal to you.  You already know about the bikes and their differences.  What do you intend to do with the bike and how does that fit your preferences or riding style?  There's another thread about giving more detailed titles in a thread so the readers know in advance what they're getting into.  The SEUC is an ultimate touring bike with a lot of extras.  The SERG is a very good one with a different style.  The 09 frame and tire / wheel set up is very nice but unless you ride hard, you may not even notice it.  What bike do you want to be seen on?  Which will you enjoy more???  You should tell us.  Good luck with the choice!!

If you ride two-up then no way.  Even if you ride solo the lack of a tour pak is a detriment to long trips imo.  Personally if I only had one bike (as I do) it will be an ultra.

If I were able to, I would keep both!

I'm not selling my Grand National to make room for a third scoot though! (If I had to I could make my side gate a litte wider and sneak one in the patio!)

If you ride a lot 2 up, keep what you have as stated.  If you want to be noticed wherever you go, buy the SERG..

Or you could turn the SERG into an Ultra... Just add CB, King Tour Pak and Lowers.  Cost you about the same, but you have the cool looking front end.

Personally, I like the Batwing so I'm keepin' the Screamin Nemo.

FWIW, I made the swap, There are dozens of upgrades on the 09's,The improved handling and the much more useable gear ratio, make for a much nicer ride. I really disliked 1st and 6th gear on my 08 its wonderful not haveing to slip the clutch taking off and not having to down shift to pass a car at 65 mph. I dont know your likes and dislikes but I have been waiting for a CVO Roadglide for years , IMHO HD did it right on this one.

I personally like the storage capabilities of the Ultra and the extra wind protection of lowers.  If you are going to add the trunk, etc. anyway, why bother trading?  Yes, the 09 does have better handling characteristics, but I don't know if that's enough of a difference for the big $ hit you are going to take on a trade.  If you could sell your SEUC outright for a good retail price, then you may not get hurt so bad.  I guess what you have to ask yourself is how many times do you open and close your trunk every time you ride, and will you miss having it there.  I've had my Ultra since November and I have only put 900 miles on it thus far.  I am in and out of the trunk constantly.  I haven't opened my saddlebags once that I can recall, other than to take them off when I cleaned the bike.  When I go on a trip, I'll use the saddlebags also, but probably only for items that will stay put until I reach my final destination.  My last bike had a removable tourpack and I took it off a few times, and each time I put it right back on, because I didn't like having to bend over to get in the saddlebags whenever I stopped.  Like someone else said, if you can have both then great.  I guess that's why I have an SUV and a little BMW roadster.  There's no room in the roadster but it sure is nice to look at and fun to drive.  If I could have only one, I would keep the SUV though.  The BMW is not practical.  The nice thing is that your Ultra is also just as much fun to ride on, so the big difference is storage space.  As you can tell, I am big on having enough space to carry items with me. It may be of less importance to you.

How much do you use the tourpak?  If it's alot, are you willing to shell out the $ for a pak for the SERG?  How about the CB?  Do you ride with a group that uses them?  I really like the SERG, but am not ready to dump another $5k into an already over priced bike.  The CUSE is overpriced to, but at least it has what I want.  If I hit the lottery all bets are off, though!

The SERG wil lhandle much better than the CUSE, even if it was an 08.

Lord knows I LOVE a Road Glide, BUT even if I wasn't as attached to my SEUC as I am, I'd never trade it for an FLTR***.  I'm also quite a FLHR fan, so I own one of those too.  When the right one comes along, I'll own a FLTR as well..........but if I could have only one, it would be at least a FLHTC.  I don't have any real solid rationale other than I've had an Electra Glide for so long.  During the time my 02 Ultra was down for cam chain tensioner failure, I was provided with a FLTR as a loaner.  "I" loved it, but it didn't have a passenger back rest, so Renea wasn't too thrilled with it.  I think she would have liked it if it had a backrest........and that thought is based on her good feelings toward the FLHR I have now, since it does have a backrest.  Still, she prefers the comfort of the Tour Pak backrest on the SEUC over the backrest on the FLHR.  But, you gotta do what feels right for you.  Best wishes during your quest.   :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks Guys,

I am going down to the dealer in about 30 minutes to check out the SERG.  I am going to see if it gets my heart pumping.  The saleslady has left it in the back until I get there.  I do like the tour pack ,but I can get by with a chopped.  The lowers, CB, Intercom, heated grips , and seat are not a must have for me.  I have an 03 Fatboy and I am thinking of cutting it down to 1 bike.  I think the Road Glide could be the bar hopper and Touring that I like to have.  I will post pics when I get back and let you guys know if anything happens.

It will be hard not to get your heart pumping when you see it.  I looked at a silver one last week and they sure are a nice looking machine.  I just can't give up the other items on my SEUC for it.  That's a personal choice.  If I could have 2 bikes, that sure would look nice in my garage too.
