Don't you have H.O.G assistance with your bikes in the U.S.? In Europe you get one year complimentary access to H.O.G. assistance with every new bike. They'd come by pick up the bike, take it to the dealer in no time, and for free.

The cycle has always been on a battery tender.  I have tried the damm ignition switch and hold in both turn signals...  Alarm goes off no matter what....

Have you tried hitting the snooze button?  Sorry, I just had to. :drummer:

2008 SERK

First thx to everyone for all the great advise,  and come this spring  she will finally leave the garage (and I will be off crutches)

I have 2 Fobs with new batts and if I go to turn on the ignition the alarm goes off.  This started a few weeks ago.  Going thru the manual for the manual disarm doesnt work.  I hold in both turn signals and dont get the confirmation.

I cant get the bike to the dealer because of snow,  but I need to work on her adding toys!

Nothing has changed,  it was even happening when I put the LED Taillight in,  but it would shut off after a few.  I tried to disconnect the battery and that didnt work....

Ideas???

Scott

This explains why the alarm is still working:  HARLEY-DAVIDSON® FACTORY SECURITY SYSTEM DETAILS

When armed, the Security System disables the starter and ignition while monitoring the electrical system and vehicle motion with adjustable sensitivity. Minor disturbances trigger a momentary warning; major ones an unbroken thirty-second alarm after which the Security System returns to monitoring. A distinctive four-way flasher pattern is the alarm signal. An optional self-powered Smart Siren Kit adds a piercing scream that sounds even if the battery cable is cut.

The Security System is armed and disarmed with a remote control waterproof key fob utilizing state-of-the-art rolling code technology. If the key fob is not available, the rider may arm or disarm the system by keying a previously entered personal code on the turn signal switches. A flashing status indicator informs the rider that the Security System is armed or disarmed.

When armed in the Transport Mode, the Security System disables the starter and ignition, but monitors only the electrical system, not vehicle motion. The vehicle may be moved, but electrical tampering triggers an alarm.

An Extended Storage Mode keeps the battery from discharging when the Security System is armed for extended periods of time.

You must have the self-powered alarm for starters.

Next question...with the ignition turned off, does the alarm go off when you sit on it and stand it upright?  Is the Security System flashing status indicator flashing to show that the system is armed?  Did you ever do anything that would have put it in Transport Mode or Extended Storage Mode?  I'm not sure that these answers will lead us anywhere.

The one thing that you mentioned was putting new batteries in both FOB's.  Did you have this problem before replacing those batteries or did you try replacing those batteries because you were having the problem?  Have you tried taking the batteries out and putting them in again?  Like someone else said though, if you don't get this figured out quickly, I'd call the dealer and get them to deal with it.  I know how much I can't stand the sound of that alarm when I'm tinkering with the bike and don't have the FOB in my pocket.

One other thing...you mentioned that you disconnected the battery.  Did you reconnect the battery?  If not, that would probably answer why you can't disarm it manually...but you probably have reconnected it, or you would have known that as soon as you turned on the ignition switch.  Okay, so I'm fishing here.  I figure the more things mentioned though, the more likely it might trigger the correct answer from someone.

Do you have the correct code for the manual override?  It should be on a little plastic fold-out card that you should be keeping in your wallet.  It has the instructions and the number you chose when you picked up your bike (at least in an ideal world, that's the way it should have happened).  If you enter the wrong code, you will be on a 10 minute lock down and the security light will flash every second instead of every 2 seconds.  If you have the correct code, you should be able to try again now that you are well beyond the 10 minute lock down.

With all the smart suggestions in place, I'll add one: Do you have the batteries in the fob correctly installed? I was careless enough to have a sales person in a hardware store change the battery and was wondering why the fob did not work with the new battery, until I opened it and found the battery sitting there upside down!

That's why I wanted him to reinstall the batteries...I figured I'd let him find them upside down on his own...if that would happen to be the case.

Another thing to try.  The security system takes a few seconds to arm.  Try pulling the maxi-fuse immediately after turning off the ignition switch, before the system is armed.  That may not work either, since your alarm is going off when you turn the ignition switch on.

While it most likely can be taken off, there has got to be a permanent fix to what is causing your problem.  Even though you're very frustrated  >:( >:( with this at the moment (who wouldn't be!), once it's fixed you'll certainly want to keep the alarm (IMHO).  It' job is to deter theft and/or people messing with your expensive pride and joy and give you at least a little peace of mind.  Can't see why you'd want to take it off since it's already paid for.

Good luck!

I don't think you want to do that.  When you need the alarm someday, you will then appreciate it...maybe not right now though.

Still sitting here thinking it is a bike battery problem.
Put a voltmeter on it and verify you have a charged battery.

My battery when FUBAR when it was only a few weeks old.
I could not get the alarm to stop crying until I had good battery voltage. (Jumpered to the truck battery)
THEN I could disarm the system.(By turning on the ignition with the fob close by, then pulling the maxi fuse.)

The battery could certainly be the culprit for the problems you are having.

Battery was fine,  checked it and it was on a battery tender all the time...

Bike was towed ($95!!) to the dealer today.  The alarm module is fried!  Thats why I couldn't get it to disarm with the PIN.  This bike has 230 miles on it and hasnt left my garage since I got it.

Dealer has no idea what caused it,  but he is replacing the module and a wiring loom.  He said something didnt look right from the factory...

Thx to everyone who chimed in!
