FXR2//3/4 Handlebars/ Brake Hoses Change
« on: February 28, 2009, 09:54:15 AM »

Hi,
I want to install FXR2/3 style handle bars on my FXR4.Does anyone know the HD part number?  I would also need new dual disk SS brakelines from the master cylinder to the brakes. Can I use HD 45287-99C from a FXDX ? I know I can get different hose section sand adaptors but you end up with hoses that are 50 percent fittings and the hoses with less fitting look so much better. Any Ideas or Harley, Russle or Goodridge part numbers is appreachiated.
I might also need to extend wiring, I have some slack in throttle and clutch cables.
Thanks,
Ltank

I just put those bars on my FXR4.  I put on forward controls so the drag bars couldn't stay.  I wanted Wild Ones drag bars, but then I needed to relocate the indicator lights.
I installed 56082-83T bars, still in P& A catalog, $70 (55) retail.  I bought a set of 4 1/2"  Standard pullback risers $25.  The top riser piece with the lights goes right on top.
All the original brake lines, cables, harness worked fine.  The brake line was the only item that needed a little coercion.  I loosened the banjo bolt at the master in turned it straight down and also bent the solid part of the brake line at the lower tree up.  All worked out well.  The only difficult part was removing the left side grip so as to re use it.
The combination of risers and bars move the reach back about 4" which was perfect.  A low cost solution.  In a few years, I'll go to Wild Ones and change the cables, etc and relocate the lights.

could you please post up a couple of pictures ?

I'm VERY interested in seeing the top clamp, and how that worked on the pullback risers.

could you also supply me with the source, and part number for the risers ?

Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what did you do about the wiring that runs up between the stock risers, and the plates that are on the front/back of the stock risers  ??

The risers are from Drag Specialties.  4 1/2 pull back, very common.

can you get us a couple of shots from the sides of the bike ..... I'd like to see how she looks and about how far back them come.

One of the reasons I have the bars I have is because I wanted them to come closer to me .... and I'd still like to have them closer.

Thanks,
Mikey

I'll make you one.  The emblem was an old hat pin I siliconed on.  The whole thing is polished stainless and held on with a spring.
Do you still have the FXR seat mount hinges?

Also, as an alternative, I bought a Saddlemen tool bag and mounted it to the risers which also completely hides the cabling.  Thats under $40.
I'll post pictures of it later today.

I'll do that later, if it stops raining, if not tomorrow.  May guess is at least 4".
