Finally doing the Woods CAMs
« on: August 29, 2009, 08:34:47 PM »

Got these babys from Jim way back in January and finally got a good
weekend to do it...Well, got the nerve to do it, HAHA

Doing the TW7H WOODs CAMs for el Diablo (formally known as Big Red).
Got all the needed stuff to do a quick install and not have to worry about messing
with taking rocker box covers off. (anyone have a TTS MasterTune map for .575 CAMS??)
Also did the SE Cam Plate that was originally gonna go in my street bob, but I waved off
on it when I had the HEMI Build done to that bike and now it is in the SE Bike.

So far here is this afternoons progress, short story, just need to do the new
lifters and pushrods and will be ready to fire her up!

Should I let the lifters sit in oil over night out of the package or just put them in raw?

Here are a bunch of pics along the way.

Best advice received, DO NOT DRINK BEER while doing this, unless of course you are
experienced and it is your Bike, LOL!  I had to refrain until now, so all maintenance
has stopped!

And all buttoned up, ready for me to finish tomorrow AM!
Up to this point I have about 4 hours into the job and in
no hurry at all, just want to make it right!
Will post the finishing pics tomorrow.

Great job Tim. :2vrolijk_21:

In regards to the lifters I think I've read that they should be soaked before installing. Having them start w/some lubrication already in them IMO would be a good thing. :nixweiss:

d00d,
Thanks very much, I was thinking the same and think I read both,
Some say soak, some say slap them in and let sit for a short
period and then re-adjust pushrods...
I am gonna soak and roll from there!
Thanks again,
Tim :drink:

I knew I'd read it here somewhere about soaking lifters and a search got me this post - Mikey's build of his 2000 FXR4 « Reply #209.

Check your new pushrods to make sure their clear of debris...  It is not uncommon to find junk blocking the oil passage down the center...   :2vrolijk_21:

Scott,
Thanks alot for that pushrod scoop, because I would have just
put them in without even thinking about checking for being
clear.  That really would have sucked!
Thanks Brother, ;D

Congrats on getting it (almost) done Tim. For the lifters I usually bleed them out by pumping new oil into them with a pump type oiler into the hole into the side of the lifter until the oil comes out the top hole.
