How about a permanent Topic for accessory instructions?
« on: October 17, 2009, 09:34:26 AM »

Given the expense of accessories. and the fact that they are worth little in determining the resale value of your bike, I remove them and restore a bike to stock when I prepare it to sell.  Unfortunately, I am usually without instructions when it is time to reinstall these items on a new bike.

How about a topic where instructions can be posted for all to reference.

Being the packrat that I am, I always keep the instructions from accessories for the reasons noted in the original post.  If there was a place on the forum for these,  members could scan the instructions and post them as PDF files, which anyone can open and use.  I'd be happy to scan everything I have if this category was created by the forum powers that be.

cheers! :2vrolijk_21:

speaking as a guy who has need to find instructions i didn't have a copy of I'd like to have the resource but unfortunately the MoCo sees those things as copyrighted info and takes offense to them being posted on a web site. your local dealer should be able to get you copies of instruction sheets

I ALWAYS save the instructions that come with ANY accessory.  I save them in a binder, along with any motorcycle pertinent info.  It makes no sense to throw that kind of stuff away...especially if you are going to reuse the parts.  Besides, it's great info to pass on to the new owner if you didn't or couldn't remove something...NO ONE would just trade in their bike and get next to nothing for it...WOULD THEY???

Typical Harley b.s.   If they want to save money and improve their customer's experience , they ought to fire 1/2 all  of their damn useless lawyers. (My apologies to any damn useless lawyers that are members of this forum)

More progressive, customer oriented companies post copies of instructions along with owners manuals, parts guides etc on their own compaies website so that customers can access these items when needed.   Maybe H-D will get to this point by the year 2050.

Just noticed something as I was looking on the MoCo website for a part for another post that they (MoCo) have instruction sheets available online in PDF format. Checked a couple parts and both of them had them. This may be something to check if you are in need of instructions.

They started adding those a few months ago Gary.  I first noticed them about the same time the updates to their site for the 2010 model year were completed.

That explains why I hadn't seen them before. Have you noticed it on most everything (parts) they have online?

Some parts do, some don't.  It looks like they are phasing in instructions with new parts...   :2vrolijk_21:

I'ts been my experience that dealers keep them on file and will photocopy them for you.  Another alternative that might be worth checking ...

Dealerships can also bring them up on HD-Net.  If you've good guys at your parts counter they'll print something for you if you need it.  That effort on their part is the kind of thing that still keeps me buying some things at the local parts counter.
