Need a good air gauge that fits!!!
« on: October 19, 2009, 12:24:23 PM »

 >:(
I own several air gauges including a small digital one that worked just fine for my old RK Classic.  Now,  my SE Ultra with the fancy chromed wheels and large disc brakes,  makes NONE of them work very well.

If this topic has been beat to death before,  point me to the correct threads,  otherwise,  I would like to know what brand and style works best for those with the same kinda problem.

My digital one held the reading until you pushed a button to release it.  I like that feature cause you often cannot see the dial to read it while it's on the valve stem

Also,  seems I recall reading somewhere about a "monitor" kinda deal that might work on bikes.  Where it would alert you via a remote sensor as to what the psi was in each tire.   That might be a neat deal too,  as I never seem to stop at the right point to have my rear tire valve stem visible ::)

The new SESG valve stem comes out of the rim at an angle so they're much easier to get to now.

The MoCo has one that has a short hose on it.....approx. 6" long.  You hold the guage part of it in one hand while putting the other end on the valve stem......easy to read.  Here it is.......   http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448765800&default=none

Just noticed the MoCo web site finally got a search feature. :2vrolijk_21:

My usual procedure is to get down on all fours to see where the stem is, roll the bike forward until I can't go any farther, find out it's not far enough, roll it backwards, then a little more, contort my wrist and hand to get the pencil gauge on the stem (which sticks straight up), let some air out of the tire because it's not on straight, watch the plunger hit the rotor because it wasn't pointed the right way, push it back in about five pounds trying to get it out from between the wheel and rotor, repeat the last few steps until everything works out right.  Then go through most of it again after I get the air chuck on there.  I haven't found one that goes on the stubby vertical stem.

Just picked up one of these.  Same one Griot's Garage sells for $60.  Nice unit.  Goes on the stem easier than any gauge I've used before which results in very little air loss when putting on or taking off.

This is the best I have found. You can check the pressure and add/remove without repeatedly climbing on the ground.

I have this one too

But the one I use mostly is a $5 digital I picked up at Walmart. Keep one in the truck, both trailers and the bike, cheap enough to buy 4 and they read the same as any of the other "more expensive" gauges I have.

I was looking at that one--have you used it?

No, but I'm seriously considering the four tire version. I've read some reviews on both and reviews go both ways,, good and bad,,  :nixweiss: They seem to be priced fair. Unless i hear something very negative within the next few weeks,, I plan on giving it a try

I've got the HD one too. I use it frequently and it seems to be fine.

Got me thinking, anyone using nitrogen in their tires.  I have my 2003 with 240mm Metzler and tire pressure not really affected by temps as air is.  When I get my FLHXSE I'll do the same.

Nitrogen pressure will fluctuate with temp.  Perhaps not as much as with normal "air."  But it will.  Every Sunday you hear proof on TV when the NASCAR announcers talk about the cold tires coming up to temp/pressure.
