??? Change Springs in Andrews 54H Install 2010 ULTRA Ltd.
« on: October 26, 2009, 11:30:19 AM »

Question,

Putting in Andrews 54H Cams into 2010 ULTRA Ltd. with the "103 Engine", heads have Beehive Springs, is their a need to change out the springs?

I know the SE255 Cams are .500 lift and not considered a high lift can, the Andrews are .555 and spring travel of .615 and are considered high lift.

Also if I use the Cometic .30 head gasket can I stay with the stock pushrods?

TIA,

SE 255 cams are .550" lift and will work fine with your stock valve train. I just installed a set in a 2009 RG. Stock pushrods should also be fine with .030 gasket. The SE 255 cam is supplied as a component of the SE Stage II Big Bore kit which does not include different springs.

SCREAMIN’ EAGLE® PRO STAGE II KIT – 103 CUBIC INCHES* The Stage II Big Bore Kit provides the parts you need to improve the track performance and horsepower of your EFI-equipped model. The kit increases the displacement of your Twin Cam-equipped model from 96 cubic inches (1584cc) to 103 cubic inches (1690cc). Kit includes Stage II (SE-255) cams, 3-7/8" Big Bore cylinders, 3-7/8" Big Bore flat top pistons a high performance clutch spring, and all mounting hardware and gaskets. Just add your choice of a Screamin’ Eagle High Flow or Heavy Breather Air Cleaner (sold separately) for maximum track performance. Requires separate purchase of primary cover gasket. Not all compo- nents shown. All EFI-equipped models require ECM calibra- tion* (priced separately). Separate purchase of cam spacers is required. See service manual for proper procedure and cam spacer part numbers. For race application only.
*Recalibration is required for proper installation. See dealer for details. Labor cost not included.
Fits ’07-later Twin Cam models (except FLHTCUTG).

Guess, I had a brain fart meant to type SE255s have a .550 lift.

My question is the Andrews 54H Cams with .550 lift and spring travel of .615; and are considered High Lift which the SE 55s are not (bolt in). Would the Andrews require using the SE  Valve Spring or similar Kits?

Thanks,

Geezer,
just picked my bike up.
andrews 54,cvo mufflers with 2 inch cores,de-cat headpipe.
runs awsome. not dyno tuned yet. had the 255 cam map downloaded to the race tuner to get close.
just need a couple of easy miles to brake the cams in,change the oil/filter then dyno tune it.
i can't wait. bike pulls great now.

Anxious to see your dyno results. Fullsac has developed a map for the Andrews 54H. It would surely be a better baseline than the 255 map.

I am also anxious to see your dyno number, as for now I too am going to use the canned 255 MAP, or maybe if I have the time I will get tuned properly.

Hey Guys

I talked to the service manager at my dealer about the Andrews 54 cam install. He not only wanted to use adjustable pushrods (which are not needed) he said I should have the Heads machined for straightness before installing the
Cometic .030 head gasket. Don't you think he is trying to get in my check book a little to far.
Honest opinions wanted.

the adjustables are a good idea. also  if you have the heads off  its a great time to cc them, make the chambers the same cc's. a great chance to make a light pass to make sure they are straight..     then in the process you you can get the cc to what it takes to make the 54 cams happy and the motor run like it should.    would be a missed opertunity to get it right while its apart.    you would thank yourself later i feel.
