Feuling 574 Cam in a 110"
« on: December 23, 2009, 08:07:05 PM »

Feuling Parts have a new line of "Reaper" camshafts for the Twin Cam Engines.
A few weeks ago I used the 574 in a 95" build that performed very well. I wanted to give this a try in a 110 even thought the compression calculators have the CCP's on the low side due to the 45 degree intake close and the large chamber the 110 heads have.
Here are the specs on the new camshafts:

The CCP on the bike with the stock cams was 205 and with the 574 cams it is 190 which is better than the calcualtors state it should be. I used JCZ's bike as a Guinea Pig, other mods are a gutted cat and fullsack 1.75" cores in the stock muffler cans. The results are very good and we are very pleased with the performance of this cam. Attached is the dyno sheet

I do!

Soon as I got there tonight, Jim said "well go take it for a ride and tell me what you think".

I got a bit of a rolling start, pull the cluth in, twisted the wick and dumped the clutch............hold on baby, the front wheel went air born for a couple seconds, then again as I hit second.  Nice, very nice......I'm a happy camper! :2vrolijk_21:

I think the traction is due to the wider back tire.  It just seemed to easy.

Congrats JC!
I told Nancy that was exactly what you would do.
I still remember that long black mark you left in Carson City.
WhooHoo!

Verrrrry nice curves.
Proves that you can have a (relatively) quiet bike and make some good power!
With a pretty flat torque curve, you will have grunt whenever you want it!
Nice ;D

Did you use .30 head gaskets or just do a cam swap? Nice power.

Just the cam swap. A .030 head gasket would bump the compression a bit and help the performance as well.

I didn't want to bump compression at all......been there, done that to many times to count.

My first priority was to get it to run as cool as possible (I ride hard, anyway.....so I need to start as cool as possible).
Second priority was/is a combination of quiet as possible (thus the decision to keep stock exhaust and use the 1.75 Fullsac baffles) coupled with a reliable (no leaks....dammit!) loaded long distance tourerer.
Third priority was/is ridable (spell that usable) power rather than peak numbers.

I think Jim achieved what I was after with the priorities that I laid out.  For the record Jim did try to get me to bump the compression just a bit and I know had I gone with his suggestions the numbers would be higher on both sides.  That just wasn't a goal for me this time.  Gettin old. :)

I can't wait till I see my bike with tour pak off...... Damm. Congrats JC..... those results are what I'm looking. Something about bring that front wheel up on command....... Hell Yeah :2vrolijk_21:
