Flash2Pass Garage Door Opener Installation Report
« on: December 26, 2009, 04:59:02 PM »

I just came in from installing the Flash2Pass garage door opener on my CVO. I did some research on this one and the HD version and so far I am glad I chose the F2P unit. Besides being much cheaper, the opener did not require any wire cutting on the bike and the entire install took about 30 minutes. That was the deciding factor - the ease of installation. I read the HD instructions and stopped after reading I would need to refer to the service manual for the procedure on loosening the gas tank... The F2P unit comes with 2 wire taps that pierce the high beam wires for power and activation signal. If I ever need to remove it there will only be 2 small pin holes that can be covered with a small piece of tape.

So far it has been working great but the weather here in NY has limited any riding and as such any extended tests. I'll be sure to post back if I run into any issues once I start using it more often.

Thank you for the information. F2P is now added to the appropriate list.   :2vrolijk_21:

I love being able to open the door without getting off the bike, only disappointment I had, was it does not have much range. Have to be inside 75ft and won't work if the bike is facing away from the door. Don't get me wrong, I love it, it just has a few quirks.....

Mike, I wouldn't get all enthusiastic about those wire taps.  Proper splices are much more reliable, especially soldered connections or sealed crimp connectors.  That is especially true in an application that's exposed to the elements and vibration.

Jerry,

Good point. I have worked with a lot of crimp connectors before and never saw this type before. Time will tell if they hold up but I added some electrical tape around them for good measure. I'll reply back as the season progresses and let you know how they are holding up.  I did brave the 40 degree weather and brisk winds yesterday and went for a short ride to run some errands. I was very happy that I did not have to remove a glove to dig for an opener in my pocket when I got back.  :2vrolijk_21:

If you like buying stuff on the 'net, I've had excellent service buying from Eastern Performance in Maryland.  Check out the rest of their ebay store as well, I find good deals there quite often.

Mike, where did you mount the transmitter on the ConV?

Well it certainly did not fit in the headlight nacelle much as I tried. I wound up tie wrapping it to the top of one of the forks behind the plate that surrounds the headlight. It s totally out of sight ad there was enough of a space at the bottom of the headlight mounting bracket to get the wires through. I added some electrical tape to prevent the wires from chafing. I'll post a pic when I get out to the garage tomorrow.

I purchased one from Eastern Performance and was able to get it to fit in my headlight housing (just barely).  I tried it a couple of times after installing it and it worked great, but of course I was in the garage.  I just need to see how far down the street I can get and have it open the door.

CK, that is encouraging!  I am thinking about trying to fit one in the headlight of my Switchblade.  It will be interesting to see how far from the garage door it works for you.  Honestly, as long as it works more than 20-25 foot, I will be delighted.

Steve,

it will easily do that. My door opens slowly and I can still hit it on my approach and roll iright nto the gaarage without stopping.
