Synthetic or Conventional Oil

Curious to see what CVO owners use. Also, let me know what weight...and make (H-D, Amsoil, etc). Thanks!

I might just be the lone exception here. I run regular HD 20-50 dino oil in all 5 of my bikes! I change it every 2K! ;)

Man, Howie beat me to it!!! ;D

I run Mobil1 in the motor and Red Line products in the trans and primary. If you do a site search on oil you find a bunch of threads on oil. It's a personal thing I guess, but studies show that GOOD syn oil is far superior to dino oil. Dino oil starts to break down and loose viscosity in as little as a 100 miles. Check out some of the other threads on this site.

I have a lifetime service agreement at the dealer on my CVO, so it's MOCO SYN3, like it or not - unless I work out to provide my own oil.

On the 08FLHTCU, I used Spectro 6 Speed in the gearbox, Red Line in the Primary, and SYN3 or Royal Purple in the crankcase.  This is what I settled on after trying several different syn oils in the various cases.

Oh my!   :jalapeno:   :jalapeno:

Jerry, if you use the search box and enter "synthetic oil," you'll find volumes on this topic.   :nixweiss:  All the CVO bikes come with HD Syn3 now.  The "fanatics" seem to go with Amsoil (me), Red Line, Royal Purple, or Lucas.  You might want to read the Amsoil White Paper  The consensus seem to be anything is better than stock.

That probably would be the consensus, but it would be wrong.  Look through the Amsoil test results and you'll find SYN-3 rated at #4 overall, out of the 17 oils tested.  I personally believe Amsoil and Mobil-1 are superior, but if all I could get was SYN-3 for the engine I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I used SYN-3 in both the 05 and 07 CVO's. I will stay with factory oil while under warranty, just in case. In the 08 Ultra I changed over to Syn-3 in the engine and whatever the factory used in the trans. This was the dealer's recommendation. I will probably use Mobil-1 after warranty. Thats what I use in my cars and trucks.
