2010 intake
« on: January 18, 2010, 09:09:28 PM »

Is there an advantage with the SE Ventilator over the stock CVO intake? I've been told the stock intake is in fact a high flow design and needs no upgrade.

The SESG is a high flow open element. The SEUC is not, it still as the enclosed backing.

I installed the SE Highflow air cleaner with K&N filter on my 09 SEUC prior to adding the Fullsac stage one set up and although it was minor I could definitely feel the difference with the increased air intake eventhough I still had the stock header and baffles. CAHDBIKER

I'm sure someone else will know more about this than I, but I was told by my local stealer yesterday that they sell the Arlen Ness Big Sucker because it's a washable filter unlike the K&N filter.

Is this true?? If so, I know which one I'll buy..  :bandana:

Both of the filters you mention are washable and can be re-oiled.  Doc

Well what the heck... Maybe the stealer makes more money on the Arlen Ness that's why they're pushing it.  Thanks for the info

If that is an accurate representation of what your local dealer told you, he is FOS and isn't someone I would consult for advice.  The actual filter element that comes with the Ness Big Sucker is a washable gauze oiled filter, just like a K&N (I think you will find, if you dig deep enough, that K&N makes the filter elements for most of the folks that sell oiled gauze elements under their own brands).  Perhaps what your dealer meant to say was they sell the Big Sucker instead of the Screamin' Eagle air cleaner with the cheap washable dry element that tends to fall apart in 5000 miles.  If that is what they meant to say, then they are giving you good advice.  The SE hasn't been a good choice since H-D stopped using the K&N element and went to the cheap Chinese knockoff back in the early 2000's.  If someone buys the SE before realizing it's a POS, at least they can buy an element from K&N that will fit after the cheap element falls apart.  Just makes more sense to not waste the money and go with the good element from the git-go.

I stand corrected.. That is exactly how they explained it to me. Something about H-D needing to kiss K&N's a$$ and get them back making the filters for them. and he did mention the Screaming Eagle filter falling apart. Thanks for the info

that being said, I always enjoy watching someone else do a litt a$$ ki$$ing once in a while.  Would you happen to be able to quote the K&N replacement filter for my 2010 softail convertible HD filter # 29670-09 before I go and blow another $50 on one of them??  thanks.   Porkypig
(I'm over in the softail convertible forum). but you can always send me a direct message.

What about the stock air cleaner on the 2009 SERG?

Has anyone seen any performance advantage on replacing the SE Ventilator with the SE Heavy Breather on a SESG?

The HB will pull 2HP and 2TQ over the Ventilator every time.
