SUBTOTBF--what not to do
« on: February 14, 2006, 10:10:33 PM »

In the continuing saga of what to do to replace the Stupid Ugly Black Thing on the Back Fender (whose area annoys me more and more every damn day) here is a suggestion of what, perhaps, not to try.  Harley's thinking that an ugly and boring black plastic disc in a viewable area was ok on a $30k motorcycle forces some to extremes.

Having seen transplanted Road King seat emblems and other V emblems, having lusted for the emblem used on the rear fender on the 04 and 06 (but denied this part because some SADS [stupid assed dip*hit] at the motor company thinks a mere 05 owner not worthy), having tried conchos and tassles and other crazy things I've moved on.

By the way, according to the parts order sheet that emblem comes two to a package.  So if someone with a Cherry or a Banana thinks it looks ok after the first one gets stuck on mine there will be a freebie available.

On the subject of continually looking for things I like the looks of to fill empty spots may have finally found a solution to settle on for the King Tour Pak this evening.  The rear end of the tour pak always seemed a big empty spot.  Just an awfully large red field that needed a little breaking up.

Started out with the little chrome emblem in the center. On the chopped tour pak it was fine.  Stuck it on and stopped right there.  On the King pak, however, it wasn't enough.  So then added the conchos and the tassles.

That was at least different.  And it didn't look bad.  Not great necessarily.  But not bad.  The tassles were a bit hard on the paint though.  Had to make sure and keep a really good coat of wax on it very regularly.  So here's how it was until tonight.

Then a couple of weeks ago so a display of new emblems for tour pak lids.  This one immediately caught my eye.  Thought right away about using it on the ass end of the tour pak rather than up on the lid as the MoCo intended.

I think I like it too.

Sorry about light's reflection in the emblem.  At least to my taste doesn't seem too bad of a look though.

Don;  order the rear fender emblem for a road king custom. It's not a "protected part". Paint the background black. VIOLA! You've got youself an "04 screamin eagle rear fender emblem. It looks to be the exact same emblem but without a painted background.

It's already off CVO.  Was just barely stuck on long enough to step back from the bike and really see what it looked like.  Then snapped the one pic so others could see what not to do.  Replacement SUBTOTBF ideas have bounced around before so figured if I could help someone avoid a bad one might as well do it.
