Lewistown Motorcyclist Killed; Hoyleton Man Seriously Injured in I-57 Crash
9/25/10 @ 10:37:49 am

A Lewistown, IL. woman was killed and a Hoyleton man seriously injured in a wreck on Interstate 57 near Benton, IL. being blamed on a deer.  State Police say 53-year-old Susan McAdams of Lewistown was southbound in the passing lane on a motorcycle when she collided with a deer.  The impact knocked her cycle under a rear tire of a semi in the driving lane driven by 55-year-old Jeffrey Smith of Taylorsville, Kentucky.  McAdams was run over and pronounced dead at the scene.  A motorcyclist traveling with her, 53-year-old Harry Rutledge Junior of Hoyleton, swerved to miss McAdams and went into the median where he was thrown off his bike.  Rutledge was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana with serious injuries.  The wreck occurred at 7:32 Friday morning.

As Susan's niece, I cam across this while looking for another report on the accident. I appreciate the respect this forum seems to have for fallen riders.

Harry Rutledge Jr. was not traveling with my aunt, my parents were and Harry was traveling with a friend.

Harry was released from the hospital on Sunday and his wife attended my aunt's services.

She had just hit the 10,000 mile mark, too.
