Saddlebags
« on: January 08, 2011, 09:35:54 AM »

Hi all
We just drove 700km before the snow came, but already it's a lot of scratches on saddle bags lids. We ride most 2up. How are you doing to protect from scratches?.
I've looked at saddlebag lid bra kit but I do not know if I like them, protection tape?, Lid rail kit? Some good ideas.
And another question, have any HD's Boom Fairing speakers, and in that case what do you think of them?

What is causing the scratches?  I have 4 1/2 years and 45k miles on my 06 & have no scratches on the bag lids & now special protection.

Part of it is just training.......never "touch" the paint in any form or fashion and never allow any part of clothing to touch it (it will wear through the clear coat eventually, no matter how soft the fabric is).

They also have the armor protection film that has good reviews and is about $100 for the saddle bag lid kit and your paint still shows through.  Also, it can be removed later and not damage your paint.

By the way, I see you're one of the fortunate few to be riding a Candy Concord.  Here's about 45 pages of pics and comments on all the mods on mine.....  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.0

There are a couple of different suppliers of paint protectors. My wife tends to slide off of the seat when getting off and her jeans slide across the top of the saddle bag. Puts very small scuffs in the paint.

check out this one on e-bay

Yes, I think the problem is that my wife hit the bags when she steps on and off the bike and she is quite short so her legs are probably on the edge of the bags when we drive.
We have the pegs on the highest setting. adjustable pegs may help.
Thanks for the links catz66, Protection's film it's probably something to think about.

Your bike looks great JCZ :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:, I've read a bit about it and will read all about it.

Try to always have her get on last and get off first. Stand up before getting off , swing a leg over and step off. For getting on (her last) step up on the  board or peg with one foott , swing a leg over and sit down while balancing with her hands  on your shoulders. This will minimize contact with the bags or tour pak. Works for us.

+1 on the Motorcycle Armor. Good stuff. Saved me from a divorce a couple of times.

I have the Boom Speakers front & rear on my SE Ultra. They have much better sound than stock. I put the bass ports in the tour pac also, not much help there. To my understanding, in order to get good bass response you have to have the new amp that is on the 2011's because the 2010 and older amp filters out some of the bass. Why....No one Knows.

I put Booms on my other bike a 2008 ultra, nice improvement but the best bang for the buck was a Hog Tune set of mid range spearkes that sat on top of the fairing behind the wind screen.  I went from 100% volume at 80mph to 75% and the quality was much better.

I have had the same experience with Hog Pod tweeters......   http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270687933575&crlp=1_263602_304652&ff4=263602_304652&viewitem=&guid=ea6f09e71270a02653203e00ffa61ae6&hlp=false&rvr_id=196457091359&ua=WXI7&itemid=270687933575

They can best be seen on my bike in this pic, money well spent!.....   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.msg641678#msg641678

I did the J&M 7.25'" upgrade.  Absolutely awesome!  :huepfenjump3:  Side by side to the Booms, I feel the J&M's are tops!   :drink:
