Installed new J&M amp in 2010 CVO Ultra and I am running out of room. I have followed the directions, to the letter, and things are so tight that the outer fairing is almost impossible to reinstall. I have gone to great lengths to carefully tie and tuck all harnesses, but things are really tight. The amp kit includes a relocating bracket that moves the XM, and CB modules under the radio, which makes things even tighter. Any thoughts?

Just finished installing this amp along with their speakers.  As I'm sure you know there is not a lot of spare room.

I originally had all wires tied in bundles - had to untie them and move as much as possible inside the center posts.

Put the fairing in place - and used a flashlight along with carefully pushing the fairing forward to find the tight spots, then move the wires as needed.

Sorry I don't have a picture.  I will try to take one tomorrow.

Yeah, I've been waiting to hear the reports from the first few brave souls.  Mine is tight already, and I just can't fathom this working with a heck of a struggle.

How's it sound though Blue? Huge difference?

I am considering the 4 ch amp also, but am dreading it for the reasons you've stated. I've had my fairings off several times this past winter for different reasons. I installed the 2ch amp and the iPod interface. The iPod gave me the most trouble as far as getting it back on.  What helps me most is removing the headlight. It's the first thing I do when I remove my fairings and the last thing I put on when I'm done. There's a lot of room behind it. I found that letting any wires that will reach, just hang behind the headlight. Plus it's makes for a nice size hole for checking any tight spots.
Good luck. I'm interested to see how your goes.

DADof2

Hey,
Thanks for the heads up.  Taking the fairing off is a pain, I guess take the passing lights off, headlight out, take your time and it goes easier.  QUESTION, I installed the IPOD interface and loss overall loudness from all functions of the radio, ANY trick?  I used to be able to hear radio, XM, CD and even NAV at 80mph without a problem, now I cant hear it at 30mph?  Any thoughts?

I like hawg wired amps for that reason too.  Plus they work really well. Maybe you can return it for that. You won't be sorry.  :2vrolijk_21:

Finally got everything back together.  It is a tight fit - I literally had the fairing on and off 4 to 5 times before I had the wires where I thought they needed to be.

I went with the Rokker 4 channel amp and their 3 way speakers front and back.   System sounds really good, which it should for the price.  I have not had a chance to test it on the highway due to weather.

I also removed all of the wiring for the old amp so it was not a plug and play system.  Since my tour pack is detachable I also had to make those connections.

When I removed the plastic cover for the amp power supply wires so I could run them through the wiring harness I found the ground wire was not properly crimped - end pulled off in my hand.  I soldered both the ground and positive wire to their connector just to be sure of the connection.

I attached a picture of how my wiring ended up - not sure it will be of much help.

If I can help with questions let me know.

Which wire was the standard amp wire from the radio?  was it part of the 35 pin harness?  I lost all my volume and I am guessing it may have to do with a ground or something simple in the 45 pin harness.  I had a hard time getting a good connection when i set the pins for the interface module.  thinking i could have possibly loosened something thats why i get volume but not 100%?  any thoughts or directions?

Crimson Slate - Sorry I don't know where to tell you to start looking.  I don't know what is involved in installing the IPOD interface and by no means an expert on the radio / amp wiring.   According to the electrical schematic the only wires going to the amp from the 35 pin harness are # 13 which is labeled CAN (+) and # 14 which is labeled CAN (-).  The 18 pin harness schematic shows the radio signal going to the amp for the front speakers - the amp then sends that signal back up to the front speakers and to the rear speakers.

Have you tried disconnecting the IPOD interface to see if you get the volume back?

Haven't tried anything yet.  On a plane right now on my way back from San Jose Ca, been gone all week.  Looking for a head start and some ideas before i dig into this weekend.  Plan on starting with fuse box, if that don't work, the fairing comes off and i start pulling stuff apart.  If that don't work, it goes to the HD dealer and hopefully they got someone that has the experience installing and trouble shooting them.  Problem is that with all the dealer closings, they are out 2 weeks and thats just for a drop off, they won't look at it for a couple days?  I have an extended warranty that i think i may cancel because of that kind of crap.  I guess this will give me a chance to clean things up under the fairing similar to what you did too?  It could be as simple as # 13 or #14 pin being loose too?

Good luck - Not sure if you have the schematic so here is a picture.  Sorry I don't have a scanner or it would be a better quality pic.

It sounds like it's on a variable output to me.  Turn the iPod up and the stereo volume up to make sure.

I looked at the room, but decided not to get the J&M  so i went with hogtunes,  The amp is angled to  to match  the slope  under the fairing on top of the radio, just wished it was the same amps as J&m though
