PCH Highway1 is closed April/May 2011

Highway 1 is Closed about 65miles south of Carmel @ Gorda Springs,  due to a landslide completely blocking the road, there is a 46mile detour over a mountain pass Nacimiento to Hwy101, then along for 1/2hour before taking the overland route back to Cambria, its been closed already for 6weeks and could be closed for atleast another 6weeks.

to the far right of the picture on the road is a white car, just to give you some perspective of just how big this slide is, there is also quite alot of road reconstrution from Carmel to the slide

Hwy1 is down there at the end of the valley, this route in the wet is only for experienced riders

Sad state of affairs.  Some consolation though, Nacimiento Road is a beautiful road.

I agree, but its only for experienced riders especially when the roads are wet. There are also minor mudslides and rock falls to avoid.

That's where you get your experience. ;D   Actually, it's not that bad and like Greg said, it is a beautiful ride.  You may have water over the road in a couple locations.....just pay attention to what's in front of you.

They plow and sweep Nacimanto once a year after winter and then it's a nice road. Before that it's not much fun with many washouts and lots of debris on the road.
