Ice House Rd.
« on: July 17, 2011, 12:02:55 PM »

Don & Carol came over on Friday evening and spent the night.  Sat. morning Jeff showed up and we all set off for roads we'd not rode before.

We left Elk Grove via Grant Line Rd. up to Folsom and Green Valley Rd. up to Coloma and Marshal Grade up to the top of the mountain and on in to Georgetown.  To our surprise, they were having a car show....nice entertainment break mid morning.

and one for Dood, a 1937 Studabaker Fire Engine.  All functions work as designed......

Don & Carol were having more fun than the law allows....

O.K. we have a nice ride laid out......time to roll....

Riding on up Wentworth Springs Road, we headed towards Stumpy Meadows Resavoir....

Stumpy Meadows Res. is a beautiful place.  We've all been there before and the stories from pervious visits seem to streatch every time we go back.....but it's all in good fun.  Let me just say that they scared off a couple of other ol' bikers that were sitting there..... :huepfenlol2:

Beautiful sweeping roads and in great condition.  None of us had been this far up before.  We saw many roads and areas that warrant further exploration on future rides.  I'm really grateful that this area is a simple day ride for those of us from Sacramento! :2vrolijk_21:

The plan was to stop at Ice House Resort for lunch.

Ice House Resort.....bar, restaurant, store, 9 motel rooms and an RV park.  On the internet search the reviews were pretty good however, those ol'bikers that we met at Stumpy Meadows told us to not bother stopping.  It's the only food establishment back in those mountains so it wasn't an option......we had to stop.

The minute we walked in, the store and bar were both full but the restaurant was empty.  Our good fortune because as soon as we placed our order, it just kind of seemed to fill up also.  The service was great and very friendly ladys....kind of made you feel like they already knew us.  One of the ladys took this pic for us....

and here she is  ;D..........

and then I met Delta.  The story is that Delta is the Mayor of Ice House and got his name because he arrived on a Delta Flight.....     Delta just wanted a little attention and a constant petting..............or a little food, you decide. ;)

and then I turn and walk over to the swinging doors that seperate the bar from the restaurant.  I think the bar tender and the waitress are sisters.....

This place had bras and pantys and even a few boxers and briefs hanging from the ceiling with names and dates wrote on them.  If the walls could only talk.........

These mountains have a lot of resaviors and lakes every few miles.  Here are some shots of Ice House Resavoir....

There are two boats (fishing) in this pic.......

The road down off of this mountain can be seen in several places below.....

The river and Hwy. 50 all the way at the bottom of the canyon......

and more than a few tight switch backs......

Hwy. 50 west just a few miles.  Gas stop at Fresh Pond and then another couple miles to Sly Park Rd. south.....to Sly Park Resavoir......

We saw plenty of deer, both doe and bucks.....

It was a very nice, relaxed day of riding.  We stopped many, many times but it was all good....we had a great time.  We got back to Sacramento in time for dinner and we decided on the Texas Roadhouse....

Don was caught shucking peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor  ;D.......

Our ride ended back at our house.  Don & Jeff lookin like they spent a full day in the saddle and now a full belly.....

and our goodbuys as they pack up and head for their home.....

we're looking forward to the next ride! :2vrolijk_21:

WHAT? No close up of that TEAL '59 El Camino??

Actually, there were several cars there and Don was trying to decide which one was "teal".  Didn't want to take a risk of offending so we passed. ;)

While Don really was trying to figure out which one was teal.....actually, in this case, it was more a challenge of trying to get shots of cars in the sun or the shade (vs. both), cars being parked to close together and all the people in the way.

But knowing you are into cars too.....we did think about you. :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for sharing the pictures.  I am jealous of those scenic riding areas, if you ever want to see corn and bugs I would love to show you around the IL. area.
Looks like a great time.

The Georgetown car show was a nice surprise.

But JC's rides aren't just as simple as getting to Georgetown from Elk Grove and back. We could have just simply hopped onto Hwy-99 to Hwy-50 to Hwy-49 to Georgetown Road and then rode the Icehouse Road.

JC knows the back areas to get to a place where there is either no traffic or something interesting to see which makes the rides much more enjoyable. JC and Terrie are blessed in that there are a lots of roads that head up into the Sierra foothills just a short ride from their home.

We always run into somebody JC knows at the strangest times and places. We ran into the guy he traded Eagle wheels with at a gas station in Folsom. That guy and two friends were heading to San Fran. I could understand it more if it was the only station in the area.

It was a great ride and a great day. The foothills didn't have the foggy marine layer that was in from the coastal areas so we had some warmth.

The Friday traffic out of Oakland at 5:30 pm was horrid even with lane splitting. Thanks for letting us use the spare bed. 1.5 hour ride home on Saturday evening was great for freeway riding.

Great day thanks.
