Removing pink xm antenna connector
« on: July 31, 2011, 09:00:28 AM »

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions for removing the pink xm antenna connector? Preferably, non-destructively. I have a new antenna that I'm about to install and thought I'd ask before I improvise.

The "pink" portion is just a clip on the actual connector. If you open the module, you should be able to release the tabs and slide the pink potion off

How big is that antenna and where do you intend to install?

Thanks.

Thanks. I agree. I found that I could take the top off the xm module (6 T10 screws and gasket), open the clips, and slide off the pink connector. In the end, I decided to keep the pink connector since the new antenna would fit inside it...NOT! I cracked the pink connector putting the antenna connector in place. However, I think it will still serve to help hold the plug in place...so gonna leave it that way. I installed the antenna vertically under the fairing, attached to one of the "radio mount" brackets rather than a messier installation on the handlebars.

I had hoped to see a full set of signal strength bars and was disappointed I did not. However, after further testing (only a day so far), I found that while I don't have all bars lit up, I've had ZERO cutouts so far where I had previously seen them 100% of the time. So, I'm hoping this trend will continue...

See my other post for more details on installation. I mounted on the side of the "radio mount" metal frame. As high up as I could get it without interfering with the fairing. I didn't measure it but I'd say the antenna is about 4" high. I mounted mine using a 90-degree sticky flush mount included with the kit.
