Rainforest in my Tach
« on: June 21, 2004, 04:34:08 PM »

Noticed after a ride this weekend (on one of our normally cold 50 degree Northern Michigan spring days [smiley=nervous.gif]) that my tach had water droplets inside the lens.  I see that it is a sealed unit.  Anyone else had this problem or a fix? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

That happens to my tach and speedo every time I wash my bike. Looks like some sort of condensation to me. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

The fuel gauges on both the Ultras that I have had (02 and 03) did the same thing.  The bad part is I was told by the local Harley dealer that it was not a warranty issue and they did not have a fix for it.

I had this problem as well. Eventually the condensation did cause the tach to fail. HD replaced it under warranty after that.

After the tach failed I removed it to get a better look. There was a rust line in the chrome case where water sits. When the bike is on its kickstand with the wheel turned to the left water can not drain out of the drain hole in the chrome housing. After riding in rain or washing turn the wheel to the right so the water can drain. When I get really soaked I pull the tach out and drain the chrome housing.
