It is the worst when you go to true duals and that ugly piece of junk is staring right at you.

I went with the chrome factory one and have an ugly black paperweight in the garage.

After you buys all of d00ds suggestions or at least the ones you like you will still have a butt ugly starter connector.   Solve that problem with this new Kuryakyn solution http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=harley&ci=3607

They were released this week and I will post a pic of the actual piece installed when mine arrives next week.  Until then.... [smiley=worthless.gif]

Note: Intended for Dresser, Road King, and Dyna models. This connector is covered by oil tank on Softail models.

My dealer plus $100 replaced mine with Chrome Harley-Davidson® Genuine High Performance 1.4kw Starter (View #1) when my starter made bad noises when trying to start.  The new starter makes the same noises, but we found if you start the bike in neutral, don't get the bad noises and I have the chrome starter to boot.  My husband just bought his.

Well, you win some and you lose some..............was it no way to your starter being bad?  Or no way would they upgrade a bad starter.

Your starter is a black version of the 1.4 chrome starter so buying that is simply exchanging it for a crrome one.  Your cases are powdercoated "sliver bead blast"  Harley sells this in aerosol cans.  I needed it fopr my primary.  When used properly, it's impossible to tell.  I also had to paint a black oil spout silver to match - amazing match.

My SEEG '04 had that problem and I remember that the stealer changed it and the CUSE '06 is begining to have problems....anyway I mentioned them yesterday when I delivered my bike for oil leaking.....someone posted that is better to turn on in neutral...from now on I will do that way.......

I found it difficult to start mine with just he clutch pulled. I always put it in neutral and pull the clutch before starting.
