I have owned my 2001 blue FLTRSEI2 since new.  It is in excellent shape with 33k miles, no issues.  Based on advice from this forum, I have added the Traxxion Dynamics Fork kit, Bitubo shocks, RideStr8 brace, Supertrapp 2:1 pipe, and Power Commander USB module. I have all the original paperwork, manuals,  covers, and take off parts.  I am thinking of possibly upgrading to the 2012 model.  What would the experts on this forum think my bike is worth?  (The best offer I have for trade-in is $10,000.)  What would be a fair price to ask for private party sale? Where would be the best place to advertise? All input greatly appreciated!

Not that you want to hear this but,
I was going to trade my 01 SERG in but they thought my $80K asking price was a little high.
So, knowing the condition of the economy I lowered it to $75K.
They almost jumped on it (they looked at me like, what a deal) and then I decided to keep it.
I try not to sell much but I do have weak moments.
Fortunately I saw the light and another Classic SERG is safe.

Don't sit there and think you're going to get anything extra for the modifications, especially on trade, but even in a private party sale.  You don't mention miles and the pic is fuzzy.  $10K on trade is probably average.  Check eBay auction results to get an idea of current private party values.  There was a pretty clean blue '01 with 21,000 miles, some motor work and a 6-speed transmission that sold for $12,300 (that's sold, not just bid up to).

Only you can decide what the bike is worth to you.  My '00 with 19,000 miles and all stock items intact and on the bike will remain right where it's at for $12,300.

But, unlike Chip, $75,000 and it's yours. Wink

I apologize for the quality of the picture-  I will take some of much better quality if I decide to post an ad.  Mileage is 33k.  I was hoping the mods would be worth something to a knowledgeable buyer but that is one of the reasons I am asking for opinions from those on this forum.  I figure you guys are the final word... Smiley

I paid $11,500 for my Black 2001 SERG a year ago. It was a one owner with all scheduled maintenance done at dealer, 20,000 miles with upgraded hydro cam tensioners done. It came with all SERG accessories included plus a motorcycle lift & HD Heated Jacket & gloves. I thought that was a good to fair deal.
Two of my local dealers each have a 2001 in Blue. Both are asking $13,000 and both bikes have under 17,000 miles, The nicer of the two does not have the original mufflers, cover, or CD changer. 
If your trade gets you a sales tax credit towards the new bike (like 6% = $600) then you would actually be getting $10,600 for your trade.
Another option would be trade the bike but keep as many of the 2001 SERG take off parts that you have and sell them on ebay. They usually do well since some of the parts are obsolete and 2001 SERG guys love hoording extra stock parts.
I absolutely love my SERG and feel that it is worth $13,000-14,000 but it might take some time to find that guy who loves them as much as I do.

I've got a slightly different take on the lack of resale value for the old SERGs.  I love mine.  Just adore that bike.  I'm glad it's not worth much to anyone else.  That lack or resale just reinforces the idea that I should never get rid of it 2vrolijk_21 .

On this forum would be the only place someone might realize the value in some of the mods you've done, particularly the suspension, and be willing to pay a bit more because of that.  The general public won't have a clue.  If I could afford to, I'd keep it and buy the new one as a stablemate.  IMO, those bikes are true classics.  But, you can only ride one at a time, and 12-13K is nothing to sneeze at.  If you have the stock suspension components, you could pull the good stuff off and put it on the new bike...it would cost you a little to do so, but not nearly as much as starting over on the new bike.

I'm interested in your CVO. I have a 2000, the original Black, Orange and White. All sheet metal has been replaced and I have $45,000 invested in it.
I would like to buy one for my oldest son as I am giving my daughter the '97 Springer she learned to ride on and my younger son a Moo Glide as he lives on
a 3,000 acre farm his inlaws own and his wife cares for 600 head of cattle a day, thus the Moo Glide with cowhide seats, bags, etc.. I recently sold a Harley dealership and agree the value of these Screamin Eagle early bikes is too low but the market is the market. I am divesting myself of all but one motorcycle, just sold seven antique Harleys and am buying a bad little '37 Ford with a Hemi motor for my next toy. All antiques are sold. They were stored, I was nervous....I didn't want to ride them regularly nor allow anyone else too....I didn't want to work on them after riding them.......I seldom thought about them, that's not passion. I am pasionate about my hot rod so far....The new owners all love them, that was my goal besides getting some cash for funny money and savings. As to my other bikes they were all in my Will or would have been so now I will now ride locally with my children on bikes with meaning and now and then see my grandchildren on the back smiling just as my kids did in the 70's and 90's, yeah 43, 41 and 26 year old
kids! I'm a long distance rider for the most part so none of the Harleys I sold or am gifting soon suited that, my '00 Screamin Eagle Road Glide fits me like a glove and is every inch my expression of freedom and passion and recognition....besides being dependable and very comfortable. One day I will get to Australia, hopefully you'll be my guide?

What a dealership will offer you will be NADA resale for the bike, less the profit amount they want to make if they put it back on their floor to sell.  There isn't much value to the add on's for trade in's, only a private buyer will give you that additional value.  NADA resale is the max amount a bank will loan on the bike - and that is what they make their decisions off of.

If the dealership wholesales the bike out right away vs. turning it on their own used bike floor, that offer will be significantly less (black book value) than the NADA resale.  The dealership knows that you save sales tax, the hassle of selling, and the incurred cost of selling (Ebay isn't free).  You should put it on Craigslist, accept only cash offers, and you may get a buyer.  Spring Time is in the air, and bike sales will be picking up.

Also remember the dealership wants to make money on both ends.  The overhead for a HD dealership has everyone getting paid commission some where.  If a dealership offers you more than the NADA resale, they are taking money away from the profit built into the new bike sale.  They will move virtual money around to make a sale, and maximize profit for the dealership.  You can always negotiate discounts on add-ons, warranty, and gear at the time of sale too.  

If you saw the spreadsheet I was toting around when buying my 2012, I could put in all those intangibles to negotiate the best deal for me.  One of the sales guys took a look at it and shook his head, I think I heard him mutter f'n engineers to the sales manager.  I also spent 20+ years in hi-tech sales, which does give me an edge in negotiations because I do my home work going in, and am willing to walk away.

Bottom line, the dealership will make money.  Bottom line - your going to love your new ride.  Buyers remorse will only last as long as it takes to get your new bike on the road, then the grins will begin!!!!

Excellent info! Thanks for your reply.  I am in the process of detailing the bike for sale.  I am ok with the dealership making a profit on the new bike but I will try to sell my bike as you suggest  to save a couple of thousand and hopefully sell it to another enthusiast...
