Hi folks,

Man I love my ride! I went up to Daytona from Hallandale Beach for bike week. I managed to hit about 95 mph on the I-95 (for a few miles). After Port St. Lucie, the road opens up and everyone is running fast. I had no problem at this speed and could feel I had more to come but I did not want to get a ticket!

Well, back to playing with my band and my keyboard player, who has 2 rg500s (2 stroke speed bikes) told me my bike was good for low end torque but not much for the top end. Hey, I am no crazy guy but I felt I could break 100 easily and would have but my goal was 95 on the 95 (at least once). I was packing luggage on my passenger seat too (see the Daytona interesting bikes post for what my luggage looked like on my bike if you are interested).

The rg500s are some of the fastest bikes made if you are into crotch rockets. Anyone know, or has experience with,  what the top end (relatively safely) of the FXSTSSE2 or any FXSTSSE year, is? My ride was very stable and oh so much fun!

I won't try and break the record, I only want to respond to my keyboard player at this week's jam (I play bass by the way - always liked the low pitch rumble).

Thanks,

Carl

I've broke a hundred a couple of times just to see how the bike felt. Like you, I had no problems other than worrying about getting ticketed.  Bike was solid as a rocket and felt like there was plenty more to go!

According to my GPS I hit 184 mph. That was fast!

Of course that was on a Suzuki Hayabusa, and not on a public road.

"According to my GPS I hit 184 mph. That was fast!"

Just thinking about that makes my behind pucker.   Shocked

"my keyboard player, who has 2 rg500s (2 stroke speed bikes) told me my bike was good for low end torque but not much for the top end."

Carl, tell your keyboardist you'd take low end torque any day over high end power.  You use/feel torque every single time you ride.  High RPM HP probably only truly gets used a few times over the life of a typical bike.   soapbox

I played lead guitar in a band for a few years.  Haven't picked up a guitar for years, miss it.

 beatdeadhorse Hello again Carl,
based on what I have read, with stock set up on an 07, regardless of
heading up a slight grade or down, the consensus of those who have
had the opportunity, 114 mph is all you can expect. This is with a steady
speedo, not fluttering 3 mph up from & down from middle of flutter. Top
speed is believed to be controlled by the stock ECM.

I have also read that some are fortunate to be able to shift into 5th at
90 mph, with little modifications, from a flat out start.  But let me say
this, if one is to hold 4th, somewhere between 80-85 mph would be all
that could be expected, it is the acceleration that carries some to that
90 mph level, so I've heard....Jack

Jack,
Does your '07 have a 110 with a heavy breather and 6 speed transmission?
The reason I ask is that my '08 does and my numbers are rather different from yours!
I took the opportunity for a little test today and came up with these results.
At 5400 rpm in THIRD gear steady for about twenty seconds 85mph.
At 5000 rpm in FOURTH gear I clocked a steady 102 mph.
Just curious.

That all sounds about right, i recall last year out of Chicago i think on the i55 i was having a little moment of fun, and only looked at the speedo when my foot blew off the foot peg (oops) i was in 5th at 95mph. Plenty left from memory. Bike has an Andrews 54H cam, SE cans and tuner.

X2.....were you in the slow lane? Seems like everytime I've been on that road, if you're not doing 85, you're getting passed.
