Neal...  You have to "unhinge" the mechanism to straighten out the linked/hinged bracket, slide it into the tank, then snap the hinge closed again as you position it.  Difficult to describe...easy to show you if it were in my hands...

looks like this is the PN 62165-01 FUEL PUMP HOUSING END CAP

That is the right part for the pic above Neal.  Sorry about the breakage.  The extended arm that swings (can't really think of a truly illustrative way to describe how it works; sorry) pulls or extends out just a bit before it swings.  Without that bit of movement first this piece will break if you push to hard.  Thought I might have one in the parts cabinet but just looked and couldn't find it.

Double check the end of the arm on the fuel pump's housing (the big piece that swings).  Have seen them crack at the end when the end cap breaks.

I remember reading the directions from the manual a dozen times and it still didnt register until the "ah-ha" point.  Good Luck niatram, this is definitely a fitting term for "10lb of stuff in a 5lb bag".

Maybe.  But I'm not that smart.  That's one of those chores I do rarely enough my hands don't completely remember what they're supposed to do from time to time.  Always have to look, feel, try contortionism and swear for a few minutes before remembering the "feel" of it all again.  Even more so because the 00 and 05 (and now the RK too) are different.

I've never had to do any of my own, but I've done an 01 SERG, an 04 Electra Glide, and 05 SEEG.  Getting them out is always tougher than putting them back in.  But having an understanding of how the "hinge" works takes some of the pain away...   ;)

Amen.  Glad Neal got his buttoned up.  I always take a minute and just look at the damn thing.  Then wiggle it a little.  Then remember how the articulating parts work and where.  Then I stop saying a bad word and am much better :drink: .
