Thanks kraut, good information.  Notice that instead of a gold key, you get a "gold" coin with the SHAPE of a key and membership to the museum.  I'll visit the museum someday but not because I got a gold coin.  Burns my butt.... >:( just like a flame about 2 feet high   ::)

Can someone explain what this means?  On slide 29:

All CVO engines will now have a full compliment cam bearing. - What does this means? In contrast to 2012??

Thank you!

I believe they mean the CVO engines will come with the higher capacity inner cam bearings like the SE bearings they sell in the SE catalog.  It has to do with the bearing race and needle design, and if you read threads talking about installing new cams you will often see advice to change the inner cam bearing to the Torrington style.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say this might be a response to the inner cam bearing failures that have been reported here and on other sites.  The CVO110 has higher valve spring pressures and lift than the regular production engines, and that increases the load on the cam bearings.

Jerry,

Thank you for the explanation.

Now the question is, should I have this done as preventive measure?  And what is the typical cost for such an upgrade?

Ironic that these are SE parts not installed in our SE engines  :nixweiss:

Or should I use the money towards the extended warranty (which I am doing anyway) and run it until it fails?

The failures don't appear to be so widespread that you should worry about it.  If you decide to change cams sometime in the future, I would definitely suggest upgrading the bearings at that time.  But I don't think I'd tear it down just to replace the bearings now.
