Floorboard extenders
« on: August 18, 2006, 11:47:43 PM »

Anyone here ever try floorboard extenders? I put them on the SEEG a while ago and it made a significant improvement of comfort level for my feet.
But when I switched to the SE teardrop air cleaner I lost the gain I had with the extensions.

I found a supplier for aluminum spacers. I swapped out the 3/4" spacers I had on the bike with new 2" long spacers on the right side only. I also replaced the bolts with longer stainless steel bolts.

Now my foot rests completely on the floorboard.

Duane, I did the same extenders you had shortly after getting the red bike.

I have an 06 SEUC with the"football"AC cover. Had been riding Heritage Classic, and first got bike could not figure out what felt wrong with foot position. Then bought the floorboard extenders and then I knew what was wrong.  For me they made a big difference. I am intrigued by your extra extension especially for the right side. Did you find those 2" extenders at a hardware store? John

Did moving it out a full 2" make it tough to find the break pedal the first few times?

Don,
No, not at all. Because of the spacer used with the tear drop cover my foot was half off the board most of the time anyway.

The only difference is my foot now "rests" more comfortably. Does that sound right  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

John,

No. I got them from
http://www.mcmaster.com/

I ordered several sizes, below are some of the numbers. You can find any size you want here.

I am wondering about these spacers, I guess cause my legs are so short, I can't really get around the air cleaner to good, so I tend to find myself riding down the road with my right foot kinda pointing skyward on the floorboard sometimes.  A couple of times in a sharp corner, my foot has actually caught ground.  Are your floorboards scraping easier on the side?  Or would you be thinking I'd have more board to actually keep my foot on it and thus, no grabbing by the road?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Nice post Porthole! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I didn't realize they had some longer ones than the ones I got from Kuryakyn. I love what I got and am comfortable with the 3/4". I usually have my feet out on hwy pegs anyway. Sure makes a difference over stock mounting. Thanks again Bro, God bless!

Hey JR
Defensive driving is such a big part of driving in New Jersey that most of the time my feet are on the floorboards. Never know when you'll need that extra 1-2 seconds it takes to get your feet back down and "indexed" to the brake pedal

Kinda curious why you didnt move the left out a bit too (other than the A/C poking out)..
