saddlebag lid covers
« on: January 18, 2013, 07:38:43 AM »

on all my non cvo bikes i put the saddlebag lid covers on to protect the tops from unnecessary blemishes.  my new cvo rk has the speakers.  what do all you veteran cvo owners do with the speakers in the lids - just go commando?

any input is appreciated.

Can't help you with the new one but would be interested in seeing what they looked like on your previous bike.

sorry - i should have mentioned , they are the mustang saddlebag lid covers.  love them, but they wont help speaker sound as they're not perforated.  do most of you just not use covers?

Just a guess, but I would say most people use a paint protection film such as Motorcycle Armor, or a 3M product.  I have every piece of Motorcycle Armor they sell on my bike and I love it.

Put the MA on my lids last year...it's a paint saver and looks really good too.

I had the clear plastic or mylar covering on my 2011 RGU.  It works really well for protecting the paint, especially on the fairing, but I don't think it looks that good on a black bike.  Probably not a problem here, but on my black bike I thought you could see it a little too easily.

www.hogcovers.com.

They are almost invisible when installed. I had them for a few months and the corners cracked. I sent them an email and three days later, new covers came via UPS, they did not even want the old ones back, I did send pictures with the original email

New ones on for four months and no issues. The material appears to be different and more pliable, maybe they had issues with the original material used and they have since changed it. Not sure, but $105 beats a new painting of the lids!

I have all the bag protection from them and it looks good, hardly noticeable unless you know. On the other hand, I also have it on front fender and it looks like $hit IMO. Maybe because of the two tone or the fact that it doesn't nearly cover the whole fender, IDK, but when in the sun you can clearly see where the film ends. Not happy with it in that application.

I have the Mustang covers on my 2010 SESG lids and I have the spoiler lights installed. Cut out a rectangular section for the spoilers to fit through, took to my tailor and had him stitch the opening to finish off and prevent fraying. Looks great. Could certainly do the same with the lid speakers.

I have a 2011 SESG and upgraded, adding the rear lids with speakers and amp (same as 2012). I do not have any covers on them and have had no issues with water or rain.
