2007 Ultra vibration
« on: October 03, 2006, 03:01:18 PM »

My 2007 S\E Ultra has a very prominent vibration at 2600 - 2800 rpms in 4, 5, 6 gears.  At 72 - 76 mph in 6th it feels like a direct mount motor.  It takes at least 25 miles of driving for it to become evident.  The vibration is not there at these rpms when you first start riding.  It is very hard to get into neutral right before a stop.  This is my 14th Harley and just came off a 2004 S\E Electra Glide so I am very used to the normal vibrations but this is excessive.  I turned around froma trip to New Mexico from Houston last week after 125 miles so I could take it back to the dealer.

Anyone else have this concern?

I remember a string about a month ago; having to do with busted motor mounts.  You might check that out.

Good luck.

I have a similiar problem with an 07 ultra, in 4th gear at 70-75 mph, zero vibration, in 5th gear, a slight vibration, and in 6th gear, a distinct vibration. I have just come off an 05 seeg with 40000 miles so I know how one should feel. Please post any feedback that you may recieve from Harley.

I don't have a vibration problem, but, mine is VERY hard to get into neutral at times.

My 07 vibrates, too. It has a very excessive vibration sitting at idle, too. Rattles your teeth. I have a 99 Heritage Springer with solid mounted motor that has less vibration.  I just passed 500 miles on 07. I was going to see what the dealer has to say when I take it in for the 1,000 mile service. I'm interested to see what kind of feed back you guys get.

synful,

Other than the previously mentioned front motor mount possibility, I would check for an overly-tight or misaligned primary chain.  The thing in your description that caught my eye is that it takes 25 miles for the problem to manifest itself.  That's about the distance it takes to get everything up to normal operating temps.

Jerry

Thats what started my vibration. Whrn I took it into the dealer for a rattling noise from the primary side, they tightned the primary down and that pulled on the shaft that the Clutch bearing was on casuing the vibration to become apparant.

Synful,

Sorry to hear your bike didn't work out for you. :'(

A buddy bought 2 '07 Super Glides. He bought one for his dad and liked it so much he bought a second, identical bike. Except, bike #2 vibrated so much it was unbearable. (he considered swapping with his dad - maybe he wouldn't notice? ;) Returned it to the dealer with under 200 miles. Mechanics, factory rep and owner of the dealership put more miles on it testing it than my buddy did. If they ever figured out the problem, they did not tell him. He traded up to a Night Train with full credit for SG #2 and doesn't care to find out if they diagnosed the problem. I only offer this as another story of curious vibration in an '07 rubber mounted model. His Night Train is dead smooth, by the way.

One thing I wanted to add before Terry corrects me is that the Night Train is a 96B motor. I knew that, I was not trying to link its smoothness to the vibrating rubber mount SG. It is the first 96 anything I took for a ride, and also the first "B" motor test ride. Smooth, powerful and nice looking. My buddy is happy, but the vibration in SG #2 is curious.
