This project turned out better than I expected and looks incredible at night on my 2014 CVO Road King.

Nice setup!  That black sets off the contrast of things perfectly.

Hey dnlpd, i noticed that you state you have the adjustable harley backrest.  i've been looking at buying a passengder backrest and was wondering if it was worth the extra 120.00 for the adjustable model as opposed to the standard model.  let me know what you think.  also, where from Iowa are you?  i went to highschool in Ottumwa and college in Ames.

Yep, we coerced the Dealer to throw it in on the bike deal.  At first it was just because it was the most expensive for the dealer, but we had a fixed loaner on there while we waited for the adjustable.  After we got the adjustable, there was no comparison.  The wifey likes the adjustable backrest in the fully reclined position.  She says she feels secure without holding on even when I get on it.  So, yeah for us we were glad for the adjustable backrest.  We had to settle for the '13 CVO backrest pad with black stitching, but the styling was the same.

We currently reside in Waterloo.

Yes, for whatever reason, Kuryakyn chose not to make the curved CVO mount and frame in black, as they do for the Goldwing.  So, my painter had the chrome mount and frame sandblasted, before painting gloss black.  He does stuff via mail, if you want his contact information.  He charged me $150 plus shipping, which does not include the original cost of the parts.

Yes, it bolts perfectly in place of the stock license plate light and mount (with no drilling or cutting) and has an eight white LED light that plugs directly into the stock license plate light plug.  I replaced the Kuryakyn supplied LEDs with 9 green Custom Dynamics Stingerzs.  Nine Stingerzs are a bit much though, I plan to tone them down a bit before I get pulled over.  The Stingerzs are crazzzzzy bright and light up a large green patch on the ground behind the bike!

There is also another Kuryakn mount/frame setup with an additional light that hangs off the bottom, but personally I didn't care for that one.

DAMN!!!! That light looks awesome but I couldn't imagine the cops not pulling you over if you ever rode at night.  There's so much light you can't see the plate!  Which is ironical because I got pulled over once for there not being enough light on my plate.  Human beings are so delicate.

Jake:

Thanks, but it gets even better my friend!  Coming to the same coclusion, I took proactive measures and came out with version 2.0.  Now, I have 3white LEDS over the center of the plate when the key is on, flanked by 3 green LEDS on each side controlled by Black Magic III controller with an independent wireless remote.  The green LEDs can switched on or off while riding or parked.  The fast "breathing" pattern, which is one of 20 available, on the green LEDS is sure a head turner while parked!  It'll drive the cops nuts when I say, "what flashing green lights...officer?"
