Need Help on Pipes for FXSTSSE2
« on: September 15, 2007, 08:36:35 PM »

Can anyone offer some advice on what they have done as far as pipes on either an '07 or '08 SE Springer. I ordered a set of baffles from Big City Thunder, the small headpipe unit that they reccomended I use and told me to install those and then just start cutting away at the SE Baffles which are stock on my FXSTSSE2. Well, can't be done, spent 3 hours at the dealer today and we pulled out the stock SE Baffle and it is comepletey wrapped in glass etc.and really no way to open it up without destroying it.

So, my situation is, I have a set of IronBags on special order which are made to accomadate the stock pipes and now need to buy some new pipes. I want more sound, not too loud, but loud enough and also will be adding new cams etc. so I deffinately need more flow, less restriction.

Any suggestions on a good sounding slip-on that might be tunable, adjustable or if I need to, a new set of good looking great sounding pipes ??

Thanks for any thoughts or advise...

Scott

give these guys a call.  http://www.danddexhaust.com/

or these guys    http://www.epiflex.com/

or you can always go with the cycleshack slip ons.

also keep in mind, the fatcat will clear your bags, and give you the performance and upgrade ability.

If you scrap the slip on idea I love my Rinehart 2 into 1 set up great sound not to loud kind of a low rumble sound to them plus with 2 into 1 you get better performance.

After considerable thought, I'm goin' with the V&H 2:1 Big Radius - along with the SERT & K&N. Dealer will install without any warranty issues and even told me to wait 'til November when there will be a 17% discount available. Sounds like an early X-Mas present for me!!!

Scott, The Big Radius has always been a popular pipe and now the Big Radius 2 into 1 seems even more popular. I originally wanted the BR 2 into 1 but at the time they kept pushing the release date back and I just coudn't stand to wait any longer. I know there are a few members here that have both set up's so finding pics should be easy. If your still undecided I would try checking out the local bike nights and try to have some people fire up there rides so you can hear the differences and maybe decide from there.

I ended up ordering the V&H Big Radius, installing and retuning tomorrow. Got ahold of Iron Bags...great people, they are changing the back of the bag to mount lower and look better since now I don't have the high SE pipes in the way.
Thanks all for the input, very helpful, I'll post some pics as soon as the bags are on.

I went with VH Big Shots Staggered.  I put O2 sensor bungs in myself, because VH didn't have the 07 pipes out when I got my bike (Aug of '06).  I like the look and sound.

Thanks to all again for the good input. The V&H Big Radius are way cool...love the sound, the look is way better than expected. My dealer was having trouble with the SERT so he just re-tuned as close as he could and I have to bring it back in when we hear from HD as to whether the program may be defective, it couldn't "see" the bike. I'm riding the weekend and will take some pics and post them.
Thanks

Good choice, I like the sound as well.  I have a friend with an 05 night train with the Big Radius and for some reason his bike sounds way better than mine does.   I chose those pipes because they sound so good.  Does anyone know what the difference could be?  I was told to maybe change the cams in my bike.

Becca,
I am really happy with the sound of my pipes, and yes cams will change the sound some. I plan on putting in new cams this spring. This pic is of my bike with my new IronBags installed. I'm riding in North Carolina right now. Enjoy!!
