Red line
« on: March 11, 2009, 05:30:48 AM »

Ok, with over 5k miles on the ghost, it's time to change oil to something other than Syn3. Loved Amsoil for years. but it can be noisy. the tranny whine on the 110 and shifting should be better. So, Red line seems to be the way to go.
Anyone, ya right, got input, shock proof. and where to get it
I know this has been discussed many times, but Im an idiot. :coolblue:

Amsoil recommends 75/140 Severe gear for the trans

I run Amsoil 20w50 in the motor and primary, in the trans I run either Amsoil 75-140 or Redline Heavy Shockproof. I bought my Redline from Zippers. 301-621-2311

Mobil 1 in the engine and primary, Redline Shockproof in the trans.

When I need oil I usually get two - three cases of oil and 1 case of Redline. I use to do a net search for the best price, but I convinced my local sped shop to carry it. He is already a Mobil 1 - Amsoil - Royal Purple & Redline dealer.

Buying local may be a bit more, but there is no hazmat fee on the delivery and it helps the "little guy".

I changed over to Mobil 1 in  all three holes (from SYN3) everything is quitier, Sunday was the 1st time i put it to the test, we rode about 100 miles or so on the back roads here in E. TN. alot of shifting, the tranny is smoothier and a lot more quitier than the SYN3 or dino oil. So far i'm sold.

I purchase from www.myoilshop.com for Redline products.

I have 8qts Redline 20W60 Vtwin HD oil if anyone is interested.  The shipping costs is what may be detrimental in someone purchasing.   Redline doesn't really recommend their 20W60 for Twin cams.
Mainly 80's and older motors.  (barely pours out of the bottle).

I used the Mobile 1 in all three holes of my 2003 and will likely use it in the new bike as well...there are a bazillion opinions on what is best, i think most agree that Syn3 pretty much sux.

Dave-

I'd probably by Mobil 1 if I didn't like to buy from the little guys like Amsoil or Redline.  No doubt that Mobil 1 is a quality oil and readily available.

I use the Moble1 in the motor, never had it in the trans. I use the Redline Heavy Shock in the trans and it shifts really smooth.

My bikes like Amsoil for motor. Light Redline (blue) for the '09 trans, Heavy (red) for my Baker trans, Heavy for my old 4-speeds.
Harley primary oil for chain case.
Pretty satisified with these combo's  at this point!

If you ever get redline Shockproof on your finger tip, you will know why it is special. It' like slippery snot you can't wash off, but it works great.
