New Parts From HD
« on: January 28, 2005, 05:27:31 PM »

The HD website has a bunch of new parts listed, most notable is an "active exhaust system" that has a butterfly valve to close off the left pipe, sounds interesting. But will it work?

Here's the link...

Noticed that exhaust setup when it was posted on the HD website a couple of days ago.  Did you also notice, however, that in its fitment description it reads something like "fits 05 EFI bikes (except CVO)."

That "except CVO" part really stymied me as for the life of me I can't think of what would be different.  Obviously nothing physically to keep the pipes from bolting on so it must be something different in the onboard electronics  to control (or not to control) the added electronics and valve that are part of the new system.  Or maybe it's just that the added electronics that are part of the new system aren't calibrated to match the higher displacement engine?  For whatever reason though, HD is saying the pipe system won't work with our bikes.

And the MOCO wouldn't make another $700.00 sale for the "upgrade" [smiley=brood.gif]

Yeah, that too (though you don't really think HD thought about making money off of folks do you?)

Thanks, I checked them out. You can achieve very close to the same look with my LED's ( for a lot less $). The Spreader 5 laying on its side under the floor board would look cool. I may give it a try.

The problem with an active exhaust system is that it's heavy and it's very hard to modify. Take the system on the Buells and your only optiopn is to remove it completely.
You know "A man can never have to much horsepower", if you can't change the exhaust, then what fun is it.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
